    Thailand : Olympic Gold

Prapawadee wins Thailand's first gold medal at Olympics

BEIJING, Aug 10 (TNA) - Thailand's Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakul won the Olympic gold medal in the women's 53kg weightlifting on Sunday, the first gold medal so far for Thailand in the games.

Yoon Jin-hee of South Korea won the silver and Nastassia Novikava won the bronze for Belarus.

Thailand aims to win four medals in weightlifting in Beijing. However, two of the country's top medal hopes failed to finish in the top three at the games on Saturday.

Premsiri Bunpithak and Pensiri Laosirikul failed to finish in the top three at the Beijing Olympics.

Ms. Pensiri only finished fifth, while Ms. Premsiri failed to make a single success in three attempts in the snatch category and was eliminated in the 48kg division.

The Thai female weightlifting squad claimed two gold and two bronze medals in weightlifting at the 2004 Games.

Athens bronze medallist Wandee Kamaeim is the only female lifter remaining from the 2004 Olympics. She will take part in the 58kg division in Beijing on Monday. (TNA)

I'm hoping we get more golds than Cuba in the boxing. I made a bet with a cuban friend the other night. I was going on the knowledge of a Thai friend who's sure that this time Thailand can do it.

    Come on Thailand!!

A lot of the best Cubans have defected and turned pro i think but they have fighters in all the weight classes.

don't think Thailand has anyone above welterweight.

I know that the Cubans are missing a couple of weight classes coz I was reading the paper whilst talking to the cuban.

What I'm gonna go for is the Russkies and Merkins taking out he heavier cubans and then thailand getting a high number in the lower weights.

The bet was for most golds between Thailand and Cuba so the more golds other countries snap up the better for me.

No problem! Though I've never had a reason to red you before

I'm aware I've got little chance of winning but I've just been wanting to introduce a betting system with the repo for a few weeks.

I think I'm just addicted to gambling!

Who will he be up against?

In the last olympics, how many golds did Thai boxers get? I seem to remember they put up a good show last time out.
