New Zealand have 2 rowing golds and 3 rowing bronze and that's all.

Why is it that they can only win going backwards?

Not that any of these comparisons means that much, but the US is leading with 65 medals overall, though China has dominated the golds. Oz is still in 3rd overall, with again half as many as US & China. The US has 300 million people, China 4 times as many, and Australia has a paltry 24 million - basically the population of greater Los Angeles.

I'd say Australia is the greatest Olympic nation per capita on the globe. And, you all know I'm no Joey.

If they had 200 silver and bronze bur no golds they would still be placed lower than a nation with only 1 gold....

Golds count first - that's just the way it is but I see some American based news sites are counting it differently and placing America at the top of the table...
