    The Championship football thread 2008-2009

Here we go again in a couple of hours time.

Picking a winner from this lot is like picking a winner at the grand national.

I fancy Birmingham and Reading to pop back up, but wouldn't hazard a third.

Hopefully Cardiff will continue to improve and I'm vaguely optimistic that we have a chance of making the play off spots.

    first lot of fixtures:

    Birmingham v Sheff Utd, 12:45
    Blackpool v Bristol City, 15:00
    Cardiff v Southampton, 15:00
    Charlton v Swansea, 15:00
    Coventry v Norwich, 15:00
    Crystal Palace v Watford, 15:00
    Derby v Doncaster, 15:00
    Ipswich v Preston, 15:00
    Plymouth v Wolverhampton, 15:00
    QPR v Barnsley, 15:00
    Sheff Wed v Burnley, 15:00

    Sunday, 10 August 2008
    Nottm Forest v Reading, 13:15

Very happy that Cardiff got off to a winning start infront of a sell out crowd of 19,500.

We were awful first half and looked like a team who had never played together before. All week my phone had been buzzing about the game yet 15 minutes gone I was looking at my watch and thinking about the next beer.

Coleman obviously had a few words at half time and we came out much better second half. Got lucky with the penalty but a deserved win in the end.

We looked solid at the back, Steven Wright at right back was probably my man of the match but the two new midfielders and two strikers looked like they had never seen each other before. If they can click then we will be a half decent side.

I'll take a top half finish this season.

Sounds like Cardiff played quite poorly but just about deserved their win.

    This makes it doubly sweet.

I can't remember the last time Cardiff won a game in injury time.
Last season, especially early on, it sounded like we were running rings around teams only to be pipped back late in the game.

Listening on the radio is way more exciting than watching on tv, keeps you on edge constantly.

    Doncaster away next week.

This where they will play next year, as yet un-named.

19,000 plus on Olympics day one, wow, they gotta keep winning. (Cardiff of course)

^ it's starting to take shape nicely but I do love Ninian Park!!
The crowd so close to the pitch, we have terracing and can make it so intimidating for visiting teams and fans which I am sure gives Cardiff the edge, you just have to look at the game against Leeds United who were top of the premier league at the time.

Sounds like Nottingham Forest gave Reading a tough time in that nil nil draw yesterday.

not bad for a team that were 2 leagues apart last season.

btw, anyone who is a member of thebox.bz, the torrent of the championship football highlights show is up for download every sunday evening our time.

only saw the goals on the championship show but sounds like they played quite well.

    defence seems very leaky though.

they conceded plenty enough last season.

Doncaster looked very good against Derby, showed fairly extensive highlights.
Will be a good game next Saturday i think.

0-0 against Reading not the worst result for us....even though at home.

Hopefully can take the 4-0 thrashing we gave to the cockle pickers from Morecambe & follow it up against the "Jacks" on Saturday. BTW...did I get that right ?? the "jacks" ?

Excellent, a Forest fan, I went to see them alot as a kid due to my football coach supporting them so everytime we had a team day out it would always be to watch forest, watching the likes of Nigel Clough, Shaun Teale, Gordon Cowans and my personal favourite Tony Daley!!!

I will be keeping an eye on Forest as you signed our former goal scoring machine who scored twice last night EARNIE!!!!!

I will be hoping Earnie and co take the piss against Swansea on Saturday 4-0 would be nice
