With VAR in last season's Champions League and other competitions, they flagged it up and the referee fucked off to his little telly to make the decision, didn't he?

I don't think I've seen that happen yet this season because the referees sat in a room near Heathrow seem to be making the call and the ref just goes along with it. Is that what's happening in England with VAR?
