Blimey, how did the Reds win that one???

Shame not to see the Crusaders match today, but very understandable.

    Super Rugby Round 6

    Kickoff times local (TST)

    Friday, 22 March

    Blues v Highlanders 1935 (1335)

    Saturday, 23 March

    Hurricanes v Stormers 1935 (1335)

    Waratahs v Crusaders 1945 (1545)

    Sunwolves v Lions 1955 (1755)

    Bulls v Chiefs 1505 (2005)

    Sharks v Rebels 1715 (2215)

    Sunday, 24 March

    Reds V Brumbies 1505 (1205)

    Bye -- Los Jaguares

    *****************************

After a very ordinary result of picks last week, here goes another set...

Blues v Highlanders -- The clan to put more hurt on the Blues by winning by 5

    Canes v Stormers -- Hurricanes by 12

Waratahs v Crusaders -- Hopefully the Crusaders can compartmentalise the grief from last week's horrific events and go out and pound the Waratahs by 12

Sunwolves v Lions -- Lions with a superb comeback win as the Rebels gassed in the final twenty minutes. To be sure, the Sunwolves also suffered the same as the Rebels and lost a tight one against the Reds. The Lions will be too big a big step up for the Wolves. Lions also by 12

    Bulls v Chiefs -- Chiefs suck. Bulls don't . Bulls by 15

Sharks and Rebels -- Rebels will be smarting after blowing a huge halftime lead and getting pipped by a penalty goal after the hooter. The Sharks have got to be wondering what is happening with their season as they started the year as South African Conference contenders (according to the pundits). I'll take the Rebels by 9 'cos Genia and Cooper

Reds v Brumbies -- Brumbies will take this one by 6

Have a good weekend all and catch some rugby on the TV (laptop maybe) if you can.
    Pues, aquí estamos.

Super Rugby to axe Japan's Sunwolves after 2020 season, Australian teams to be affected

The Japan-based Sunwolves will be cut from Super Rugby in 2021, with the competition to revert to 14 teams in a move that will have an impact on Australia's four teams.

    Key points:

    • The Sunwolves will be axed as Super Rugby looks to "consolidate the competition format"
    • The Japan-based club joined Super Rugby in 2016 but has struggled in terms of on-field results
    • The axing of the Sunwolves will impact on Australia's four Super Rugby teams, who will play fewer matches from 2021 onwards

The axing of the Sunwolves, who play in the Australian conference, means the current three-conference system will be scrapped after the 2020 season, with each team to play 13 matches during the home-and-away campaign.

There will be fewer matches between the Australian teams — the Waratahs, Reds, Brumbies and Rebels — as they will each only play three local derbies every two seasons from 2021 onwards, as opposed to three per year under the current format.

Great win for the Waratahs over the Crusaders. The Saders first loss in well over a year.

Israel Folau must be one of the best players playing the game these days.

Brilliant performance again yesterday and now the equal leading Super Rugby try scorer.

Looking at the Aussie conference I am seeing a very competitive scenario which may mean Aussie Rugby is on the rebound.

A long time waiting but the signs are there.

That Tahs win has thrown the Aussie conference wide open.

Was quite surprised to see the Chiefs give the Bulls a smacking. I thought they were better than that this year and it's not like the Chiefs have been on fire prior to that. Might be the spark that gets them going.

^ Most games this season have been interesting due to the fact all the teams are competitive no matter who they are playing.

Yes we still have those exceptional sides, like the Saders, but the other sides are closing that talent gap.

I still predict the Saders to win the series but it is going to be a lot closer then previous seasons particularly with the WC being played this year.

It has been much more exciting this year than the last couple, imho, due to the competitiveness of the Aussie/Bokk/Japanese team(s), and the relative poor performances of the Kiwi teams (getting ready to peak for the WC). Good viewing and wide open.

    Super Rugby Round 7

    Kickoff times local (TST)

    Friday, 29 March

    Hurricanes v Crusaders 1935 (1335)
    Waratahs v Sunwolves 1945 (1545)

    Saturday, 30 March

    Blues v Stormers 1935 (1335)
    Reds v Rebels 1945 (1545)
    Sharks v Bulls 1505 (2005)
    Jaguares v Chiefs 1840 (0440 Sun)

    Byes: Highlanders, Lions

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

Crap picks last week and this week?

Hurricanes v Crusaders -- Saders looked flat last week against the Waratahs. The Canes held on to beat a pretty good Stompies side. Looking at the match-ups I'll go with the Crusaders ('cos who will not back the Crusaders?) by 8

Waratahs v Sunwolves -- Waratahs by 21. The announcement that the Sunwolves are on their way out won't really inspire their team nor supporters

Blues v Stormers -- Reluctantly giving the Blues this one by 5. The Stormers look like an improving side and the Blues are the Blues (hoik spit) and many times don't play up to their potential

Reds v Rebels -- Hard one, this. The Rebels are coming off a tough trip to the Republic, dropping a tough one to the Lions in which they should have won and getting beaten well by the Sharks. I have the Rebels by 10 'cos Genia and Cooper.

Sharks v Bulls -- Bulls by 7 (which is pretty stupid if based on last weeks results), but lets see if the Bulls put on their big boy pants and play like they show they can play.

Los Jaguares v Chiefs -- The Chiefs absolutely schooled the Bulls last week. After a nightmare start one has to ask., "Where in the hell has this team been all season?" The Jaguares come off a bye and a shitty tour of South Africa. Los Jaguares do play well in the home stadium and as such I have the home side getting up by a converted try.

    +++++++++++++

Have a great weekend all and happy viewing of a damn good rugby comp.

    Hurricanes 8 - 32 Crusaders

Barrett (Beauden) had a really ordinary night while Richie Mo'unga had not a great, but good night. All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, watching from the grandstand, has to be thinking about giving the 10 shirt to Mo'unga.
