Sir Andy Murray to retire after Wimbledon (if he can make it that far)

    Obviously very upset about it.

What is he, 31 and worth $100 million?

    I'm sure he'll cope.

He keeps crying a lot, its obvious that Tennis isn't good mentally for him. I read that he'd been assessed and Macrame will wipe the tears away

And from the Telegraph..... the question is will the tears look realistic

he All England Club intends to commemorate Andy Murray’s career with a statue at Wimbledon, matching the famous bronze of Fred Perry that provides a meeting place for thousands of people every year.

The AELTC’s officials are often tight-lipped on their plans but this was an exception. When Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis guested on BBC Radio Five Live’s Sportsweek programme on Sunday, he did not hesitate to confirm Murray’s future recognition through the medium of sculpture.

"For sure, I don't think there's any doubt about that,” said Lewis, when the question of a statue was raised. "We always felt that when Andy retired, that would be the appropriate time to recognise his extraordinary career.

"I am sure something like that will be done, but meanwhile down at the club he is seen as a highly respected person both on and off the court. We are very fond of him and he is a great person to have around the club."

No wondering he is crying like a winey little bitch. Having to retire at 31 on a measley 100 mill, poor bastard. Amazing how little your contribution needs to be to get a knighthood. FFS.

Two sets down in his first round match, and not looking like he's going to win.

Well fair play to the grim sweaty sock, he's levelled it at 2-2.

Was expected. He was paid a fine tribute by the fans and his peers. A wise man would call it quits now. He lost and will again. Better to go now and be remembered for what he achieved rather than a guy trying to hold on too long.

Quite embarrassing to watch him sobbing. Aren't much more tragical events in one's life to be overcome?

Agree. Far to melodramatic for my liking.

Lived through Dunblane as an 8 year old school kid.

Think his mother used to give lifts to the killer.

Fair play to him, 45 career titles, three grand slams, two Olympic Golds.

According to US business bible Forbes, Murray will end his playing days with at least $165m (£129m) in career earnings, with prize money making up just $61m, and the bulk - some $100m - coming from endorsements, bonuses and appearance fees.

Not bad. $61 million in prize money alone.

Made me think of David Bentley, who could accurately be described as a bag of shite.

Think he retired at the age of 29, probably with double-digit millions, due to 'falling out of love with football', and also probably realizing he was shite.

You can't take away the achievement and his style of play was exciting at times but if you mention his name, him blubbing will always be a vision I get; Steve Smith and Dave Warner too after Sandpaper Gate.
