The tournament opened with tiny Bahrain getting a creditable 1-1 draw with the hosts.

Then it descended into comedy football.

Australia 0-1 Jordan oh my how the mighty have fallen.

And Thailand 1-4 India, another one that's gone backwards.

Syria v Palestine nil all right now. Wonder who the isrealis and murkins will be supporting in that one then?

15:00 Chinkies vs Kyrgyzstan

16:30 South Korea vs Flippers

19:00 Iran vs Yemen (bit of a local derby that one).

Surprised that the Yemenis could field a squad or even want to - considering the times.

Thailand have taken the lead against those footballing giants Bahrain (pop. 17) with 25 minutes to, thus keeping their Asian Cup dreams alive.

Actually a decent strike.

A well deserved win. Now if India beat the UAE later, it's all down to the Thailand-UAE game as to who goes through.

(Unless Bahrain beat India in the last game, which will give at least two teams four points).

Thailand and the UAE are through to the knockout phase after a lacklustre 1-1 draw. Thankfully little Bahrain stunned the whole of India with a 1-0 that (I think) sends them through as well.

Crunch match between Australia and Syria in 90 minutes to see who goes through. A draw would probably suffice for the convicts.

Son has just turned up from the tiny totts game at the weekend. I can only assume Korea decided they didn't need him, but they will probably have him on the bench against the Chinkies tomorrow just in case.

Australia squeezed past Syria 3-2 to come second in their group and progress.

The two notable ties today are South Korea vs. the Chinkies and Iraq vs Iran, both games to decide group supremacy with all four teams already through.

Tomorrow is a belter: Qatar vs Saudi Arabia.

BeIn Sports have even flown out Mourinho to offer his wisdom.

Although in fairness the result is really only for bragging rights as both teams are already through.

South Korea put the Chinkies in their place 2-0.

Iraq and Iran drew 0-0, with Iran topping the group.

The Saudi Arabia-Qatar fuckfest starts at 23:00 Thailand tonight. Wouldn't want to be the ref in that one.

With the first round completed, it's time for the knockouts. Thailand have a tough game against the Chinkies (Sunday, 21:00 Thailand). Saudi Arabia won't relish a tricky tie against the nips, while Qatar face a real banana skin against Iraq.

The rest should go to form.
