I've never really been into F1 -- no particular reason(s) -- but watched that doco on Netflix recently and got all caught up and excited by it so thought I'd give it a crack.

    Don't think I'll bother now.

That documentary was excellent though, 'Formula 1: Drive to Survive', though I rather suspect anyone posting on here is probably already aware of it.

Well fuck off and open a thread about that then. Norton can share his moped pictures there, too.

If you could post something interesting it would be a start.

Snubby since your entire F1 knowledge comes from flipping burgers at a Goodwood vintage meet, there certainly isn't much point in you being here.

The simple fact is that Mercedes and Hamilton are producing a masterclass of monocoque racing the likes of which no-one else can get near.

Yes, I'm sure it's boring to "race fans" that only watch it in the hope of seeing crashes, but for that I'd recommend European Touring Class.

British Touring cars were great when Volvo introduced estate cars with seriously scary engines. Great place to go for spare body panels and bumpers.

It would take a miracle for Hamilton to lose this years F1 drivers title. Wolff understands him now, and Mercedes give him a great chassis and engine combination.

I remember watching it when they launched the Dubai "F1" track (that's another story).

There was this little powder blue Porsche that puddled around behind everyone staying off the racing line.

I asked what the craic was, and it turned out it was some rich European who paid his own way to drive around the track just so he could tell birds he was a "racing driver"!

I still say my plan to introduce tequila shots and vodka slammers into the mix would make it more interesting.

They only have 2.5 seconds to neck it during a tyre change. Fire risk?

Hoping for a better F1 weekend than France! What can they do to get the most out of this sport, when it’s good it’s great, when it’s bad it’s depressing hey all big boys toys, questionable sustainability and no drama #letthemrace!

Hammy is struggling for grip on this track.

Pepe Le Pew is flying around it and looks like he's getting pole.

Max and Bottas keeping Hammy at bay.

But there is either something wrong with Vettel's car or the scrutineers caught Ferrari pulling a fast one and they are having to change something on the car - they are going to great lengths to hide it from the cameras. Anyway he's out of Q3 without a time.

Hey snubby, you can watch it again now, Ferrari might win one!

Well a well deserved pole for Pepe Le Pew and quite a lap for Hammy to get up onto the front row.

Mad Max and Bottas behind them, Vettel starts in 10th.

If Ferrari have that much pace on the straights, then even a good start from Hammy won't keep him at bay for long.

So it might just be a cruise around to finish second and pull further away from his rivals for Hammy, and a maiden win for Pepe Le Pew.

With that pace, hard to see anything else unless he fucks up or the car does.

Hamilton picked up a 3 grid penalty putting him fifth and Vettel ninth. This should be a race to watch with those two trying to make up places. May even have some strategy changes to stay out longer.

Leclerc has talent and would be nice to see him winning races and challenging for championship in a season or two.

Good to see Hamilton took his punishment on the chin without fuss. Vettel might want to learn something from that....

Especially given that you could see he was trying to get out of the way.

Hamilton, who also received one penalty point on his licence, pre-empted the official announcement of his grid drop by several minutes by writing "3 place penalty..." on an Instagram post.

In a separate post, he conceded that he "totally deserved the penalty today and have no problem accepting it".

He added: "Was a mistake on my behalf and I take full responsibility for it. It wasn't intentional. Anyway, tomorrow is another day and an opportunity to rise. These things are sent to try us."
