    Round 12
    Super Rugby

    (all kickoff times TST)

    Friday 4 May

    Chiefs v Jaguares (14:35)
    Rebels v Crusaders (16:45)

    Saturday Cinco de Mayo

    Hurricanes v Lions (14:35)
    Waratahs v Blues (16:45)
    Stormers v Bulls (20:05)
    Sharks v Highlanders (22:15)

    Pix for the weak

Chiefs (though I'd love to see the Jaguares pick up their fourth win on their tour)
Crusaders (Richie Mo'unga is back for the Sadists! Recovered from a broken jaw though, so will have to see how he adjusts)
Hurricanes (Lions demolish 'Tahs then looked ordinary against Reds. Look for the superior backfield of the 'Canes to run riot)
Waratahs ('cos the Blues are fucking dreadful despite having some incredible talent like Reiko Ioane)
Bulls (Hey, these guys are playing decent rugby. Very impressed with Handre Pollard)
Highlanders ( Ben Smith, Aaron Smith, Lima Sopoaga, Waisake Naholo...brilliant players on a team that can light the scoreboard quickly)
    Pues, aquí estamos.

Even though I'm a Chiefs supporter, the game's in my hometown, and a leg-end from my alma mater will be playing in it... I'm kinda with you on that one.

The Waratarts have also been dreadful and the Blues have Pulu and Kaino back... but yeah, the Blues will find a way to be even more dreadful and lose.

For the Highlanders I forgot to mention what an incredible job Tevita Li has been doing so far this year.

WHOA!! How about that? Jaguares have claimed two Kiwi scalps and end their tour with four wins. Well done, the Jaguares.

    Round 13

    (All kickoff times TST)

    Friday 11 May

    Blues v Hurricanes (14:35)

    Saturday

    Sunwolves v Reds (10:05)
    Crusaders v Waratahs (12:15)
    Highlanders v Lions (14:35)
    Brumbies v Rebels (16:45)
    Stormers v Chiefs (20:05)
    Bulls v Sharks (22:15)

    This week's top tips...

    Hurricanes
-- The Wellie side is looking great. The Blues are the opposite.

Reds -- The Sunwolves have to win sometime, but this won't be that time.

Crusaders -- The Sadists are really beginning to hit on all cylinders. Mo'unga is back from jaw surgery and is hitting the line no problems. Crotty and Goodhue just get better each week. George Bridge has been marvelous at fullback. Fiji represents out on the wings with Manasa Mataele and his uncle Seta Tamanivalu. Crusaders forwards will bully the Waratahs' pack all over AMI Park this Saturday night. Woe be the Sydney side this weekend.

    Highlanders
-- The Highlanders, to be honest, looked shit last week against the Sharks. They are now back home after the long trip from South Africa. If they played as flat as they did the previous week the Otago team will find getting to the playoffs a bit challenging. The Lions are finishing their tour of Aussie and New Zealand before they head back to the Republic. The Lions are a bit beat up with the noticeable loss of hooker Malcom Marx who will be out for six weeks with a groin injury.

Stormers -- Looked very good against the Bulls last week. The Chiefs are looking pretty beat up. Bring back Beaver!

Sharks -- They looked the goods against the Highlanders. The Beast was in fine form rumbling up the middle.

I see some punter has put $100k on the Canes for this one.

Irrespective of form etc. that's still a pretty ballsy bet.

That's a lot of money, but he (I assume it's a he) reckons the Canes are that good and the Blues are that bad...

The Blues do have some talent -- the Ioane bros, Tuipulotu, SBW (back this week I hear), and Kaino are supposed to run out on to the park. Problem is that they are Blues and they'll find a way to play horrible.

    Round 14

    (kickoff times TST)

    18 May 2018

    Hurricanes v Reds (14.35)

    19 May

    Sunwolves v Stormers (12.15)

    Blues v Crusaders (14.35)

    Waratahs v Highlanders (16.45)

    Sharks v Chiefs (20.05)

    Lions v Brumbies (22.15)

    20 May 2018

    Jaguares v Bulls (04.40)

If I were a bettin' man...

Hurricanes -- by +30. The Reds couldn't even beat the competition doormats (in fact, the Reds were handed a hiding by the Sunwolves).

Stormers -- This match will be played in Hong Kong, so a road trip for both outfits (granted the Stormers have a lot further to travel). The Sunwolves should be feeling energised by their thrashing of the Reds last week. The Stormers have been a bit inconsistent, but there is some undeniable talent on the Cape Town side. The Stormers pack will likely bully the Sunwolves around the Hong Kong paddock.

Crusaders -- The Crusaders, who stormed back to win after spotting the Waratahs 29 points, once again will add misery to the woeful Dorkland Blues franchise.

Highlanders -- Even though star fullback Ben Smith will have a two game rest, the Highlanders still have an incredible backfield of Waisake Naholo, Tevita Li, and Matt Faddes. The Waratahs will be hurting after last week's collapse. Can they re-group? The Magic 8 Ball says "unlikely".

Sharks -- The Sharks have been my bogey team all year. The Chiefs should win just on the strength of me picking the Sharks.

Lions -- back home to the High Veldt after a rough Aus/NZ tour. The Brumbies are pretty pathetic, like the other teams in the Australian Conference, so look for the Lions to get back on the winning track.

Jaguares -- Coming off a successful tour of Aus/NZ the Buenos Aires franchise looks to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. They have been playing with far more discipline and are playing to the level that would be expected with a team that is full of test players. Unfortunately for the Jaguares fullback Joaquin Tucelet will be out injured for six months. The Bulls, like other South African sides, have at times played brilliantly, but at other times have looked rather ordinary.

    Round 15

    (all times TST)

    Friday 25 May

    Crusaders v Hurricanes (1435)

    Rebels v Sunwolves (1645)

    Saturday 26 May

    Jaguares v Sharks (0240)

    Chiefs v Waratahs (1435)

    Reds v Highlanders (1645)

    Bulls v Brumbies (2005)

    Stormers v Lions (2215)

    My picks...

    Crusaders --
    Match of the week.

Sunwolves -- Three in a row? Hell, why not? The Rebels, after a good start to the year, have looked very ordinary the past couple of months.

Jaguares -- The Buenos Aires side has been on a five game winning streak. Let it continue.

Waratahs -- The Waratahs finally ended Australian Super Rugby two year losing streak against New Zealand teams by beating the Highlanders. They'll go into the 'tron with a lot of confidence. The Chiefs are looking beat up.

Highlanders -- The Highlanders have been in a bit of a funk lately losing to the Sharks and Waratahs, though they did play very well against the Lions a couple of weeks ago. The Reds really pushed the Hurricanes and nearly pulled off an upset. This one could go either way, but safe money goes with the Clan.

Bulls -- The Bulls have shown flashes of brilliance this year as well as playing uninspiring boring footie. Fortunately for the Bulls the Brumbies are in town and they are shit.

Lions -- The Stormers were upset by the Sunwolves in Hong Kong last week. The travel and the heat and humidity probably didn't help the Cape Town team. The long trip back to the Republic doesn't help. The Lions, not as good as they have been the past couple of years, still are better than the other South African Conference teams (save for the surging Jaguares) and should put away the Stormers.

    Round 16

    (all times TST)

    Friday, 01 June

    Highlanders v Hurricanes (1435)

    Saturday, 02 June

    Blues v Rebels (1215)

    Chiefs v Crusaders (1435)

    Reds v Waratahs (1645)

    Sunday, 03 June

    Brumbies v Sunwolves (1305)

    My Picks...

    Highlanders
-- Both teams seem to be a little flat compared to their usual high standards. I'm picking the Highlanders as they have home advantage (and I'm a South Island guy).

Rebels -- The Blues have to win at least one game at home, but other than that, meh, they don't have much to play for. The Rebels have a shot at a playoff spot sot look for the Rebels to come in hard.

Crusaders -- The Crusaders have an amazing organisation that keeps producing quality players. With the loss of four All Blacks from their forward pack and All Black Ryan Crotty at inside centre the Sadists still managed to handily beat the Hurricanes. The Chiefs are a dangerous outfit who can beat the Crusaders if the Canterbury side doesn't bring their 'A' game. It should be a cracker.

Waratahs -- The NSW Waratahs are finally getting their act together. The Reds' season has been all over the show with flashes of brilliance interrupted by displays of horribleness.

Brumbies -- This team has me scratching my head. This is this year's opposite team. Pick 'em to win and they lose. Pick 'em to lose, and the buggers pull off an upset. Anyway, I'm picking them to win this weekend.

    Super Rugby Round 17

    (all kickoff times TST)

    Friday 29 June

    Blues v Reds (1435)

    Rebels v Waratahs (1645)

    Saturday 30 June

    Highlanderv Chiefs (1435)

    Brumbies v Hurricanes (1645)

    Sunwolves v Bulls (1855)

    Sharks v Lions (2215)

    Sunday 01 July

    Jaguares v Stormers (0240)

    My picks for the round...

Blues -- No-hopers Aucklanders haven't won a home game so far this season and this week will likely be their best shot at doing so against a lackluster Queensland side.

Waratahs -- One of the trickier games to pick. The Rebs have won three on the trot after having endured a week after week of losing matches. The Waratahs have played brilliantly at times and looked utterly clueless as well. Coin flip says the Waratahs will not be at their worst this week.

Highlanders -- 'cos I'm a South Island man. That and the Chiefs are carrying a lot of injuries. The game will be played in Suva so expect a lot of substitutions early in the game as the tropical temps will wear both teams down.

Hurricanes -- Class class class. Even though injured All Blacks Beauden Barrett and Ardie Savea are out, the talent laden Hurricanes will likely roll over a meh Canberra team.

    Sunwolves --
Like the Highlanders/Chiefs match, this meeting between the Sunwolves and Bulls will be played in very warm conditions. The two Super Rugby sides will face off in Singapore's National Stadium where temps are expected to be somewhat moderated by afternoon thunderstorms. Warm humid conditions suggest that there will likely be more than a few handling errors as the ball will be hard to grip. I have a feeling the Sunwolves will handle the conditions better than the Pretoria based Bulls.

Lions -- The Lions are my pick, but with the Sharks I've been wrong nearly three-quarters of the time. Still, the Lions are the top team in the South African Conference and their class should see them come away with a victory.

Jaguares - -Even though a Jaguares-laden Pumas side had an execrable June International series against Wales and Scotland, they are riding a six game Super Rugby win streak as well as playing at home. The Stormers are inconsistent and don't seem to score much on the road.

I watched his because it was Kaino’s last game and he has been a great servant to Auckland and NZ rugby and deserves the respect...

...But. Fuck. Me. Utter dreadful shit. Woeful. Hard to believe those were professional players out there.

How long has Auckland rugby been dreadful? Ages...

Waratahs come back with two second half tries to beat the Rebels and claim the top spot in the Aussie Conference.

Disinterested lacklustre Hurricanes go down 24-12 to the Brumbies. Sunwolves beat the Bulls in Singapore 42-37 in a very entertaining match.

99% would choose a 'Canes win, but the Hurricanes looked awful last week against the Brumbies.

Actually yes you're right they did, I'd almost even forgotten about that. Three losses on the trot for them I think.

But still there's awful..................... and then there's the Blues.

Chiefs scrapped one against Brumbies (focking MacKenzie!) and Hurricanes have just cracked open the floodgates against the Blues.

It could get ugly from here.
