^ I note they still run replays of last seasons NRL games but no advertisement about this seasons upcoming games.

I also only purchased the service for NRL games.

Ahhh... Bad news then mate, Setanta still have the rights but True no longer have Setanta.

Only found that out myself recently when I ditched it.

A few mates have bars that get the NRL so looks like I will have to go and watch the games there.

To be fair Union seems to be far more popular in Asia then NRL.

The only real time I have seen both code supporters come out to watch an NRL game is the State of Origin.

Bit disappointed RugbyPass has dropped/lost the NRL rights.

I've always been a bigger RU fan but I ended up watching most the RL last season on that too.

I played and love both codes mate.

I can still watch the RL games live being played in the UK though.

OK I'm now a paid up member of watchnrl.com and first impressions are good. They'll be showing every game via Fox NRL. I can imagine they'll be getting a lot of business from people in Thailand next week, especially bars who need an NRL feed for their punters. It's a double whammy, Truevisions have dropped it and so has Premier Sports who everyone (including me) use to stream from when games weren't on Sat TV due to cvnting Super Rugby Yawnion games being played at the same time. Best I can gather, Sky Arena (who's feed can streamed) out of England will be showing some games, but certainly not all and it'd be Murphies law that the best match-ups each weekend wouldn't be shown. Anyway fuck it, for something like AUD $180 for the year I'm sorted...

Yeah, I've paid up for watchnrl.com as well.

The coverage seems pretty good so far.

I've still got a few months to run on my RugbyPass subscription, but very rarely watch any RU.

NRL Season kicks off on Thursday Arvo/Evening

Rugby League 2018-nrl-dragons-png vs Rugby League 2018-nrl-broncos-png

I'm a Broncos fan and wary of a resurgent Dragons and they might be too strong in front of their home fans.

Plus The Dragons have won 14 of their last 17 at Kogarah and the last three seasons, the Saints are 29-12 under in night matches

Predicting a low-scoring encounter and might have to wait till next week to cheer the Broncos home.

Following on from the CowBoys ... https://teakdoor.com/the-sports-room/...ml#post3728980 (Rugby League 2018)

    2. Sydney Roosters Rugby League 2018-nrl-roosters-png
The Roosters should be quick out of the blocks with a favourable draw to start the 2018 NRL season.
They will only face three teams in the first 12 rounds who played finals football last season.
They’ve had some massive names head over to Bondi in the off-season, with Origin stars Cooper Cronk
and James Tedesco joining the tri-colours.

The team looks scintillating on paper from No.1 through to No.17 and it’s hard to see them not featuring
when the whips are cracking at the end of the season.

    ---

    3. Melbourne Storm Rugby League 2018-nrl-storm-png
The Storm will find it tough to top 2017 after taking out the NRL Premiership with a 34-6 thumping of the
North Queensland Cowboys in the grand final.
Craig Bellamy’s men have lost some big names in the off-season, but none bigger than Cooper Cronk, who
has been the rock of the Melbourne Storm alongside Cameron Smith and Billy Slater for numerous years.

Brodie Croft looks to be a Cronk-clone, and showed some promising signs in the recent World Club Challenge
    win over Leeds Rhinos.

Tohu Harris and Jordan McLean will be hard to replace, although the returning Ryan Hoffman, and former Bulldog
Sam Kasiano will look to fill the void.

They’ll have plenty of size coming off their bench this year, with both Kasiano and Nelson Asofa-Solomona the
    equivalent of man mountains.

The Storm are the best-coached side in the competition, and despite the loss of Cronk, it’s hard to see
them not fighting out a Top 4 spot.

    ---

    4. Parramatta Eels Rugby League 2018-nrl-eels-png
The Eels pushed the Storm all the way in Week 1 of last year’s finals series, eventually going down 18-16.
They were given another bite of the cherry after their Top 4 finish, but were bailed out in straight sets by the giant-killing Cowboys.

The return of Jarryd Hayne could be the x-factor or he could undo all of Brad Arthur’s hard work last season if
he turns up with a poor attitude.
The combination of Mitchell Moses and Corey Norman in the halves will go from strength-to-strength, while the
return of Clint Gutherson from injury in the early rounds of the season which create some selection headaches for Arthur.

The Eels are the dark horses of the competition according to The Wolf.

    Saints 1.80
    Broncos 2.00

Semi-Pro tip: Do not head-2-head bet on NRL until at least round 3. Anything can and will happen in the first few rounds till the teams get some match time (for competition points) under their belt and new players gel into the team. Storm will be the possible exception to this due to their sheer class but expect some unexpected results!.

I think Brisbane will light St George up, a far better squad with a far better coach and good weather forecast so it doesn't matter that they're away from home. Will watch the game for sure, but won't be betting!.

*Exception to the above: none of that applies to the Warriors who will be shit from start to yet another sad, tepid, weak, finish.

    I watched 4 games of round 1.

Storm played their usual, clinical game to beat the dogs.

Michell Pearce kicked the winning golden point to give Knights the points over the Silver Spoons.

I'm very happy with the Tigers win over the Roosters.
Benji brought into the side at the last minute due to Josh Reynolds hamstring injury.
The crowd gave Tedesco a roasting every time he touched the ball, doubly so when he butchered a certain try.

Panthers kept the Eels pointless in the second half to win after a crappy performance for most of the first half.

What's your thoughts about the quality of the watchnrl.com?

i found the picture quality would deteriorate fairly frequently when watching live, so switched to downloading the game to my phone at the highest quality and then casting it to the tv with a chrome cast after the download completed.

^Mine is great, couldn't be happier. But my internet is a solid 25-30mps that rarely drops out or slows down. I watched 6 games over the weekend and it buffered and/or dropped back to low-def probably 10 times for on average 5-10 seconds before auto adjusting back to hi-def. Had a friend over for the Perth double header and he couldn't believe the picture quality, he's joined up now as well after the free demo at HWHQ but they've got a 2 week free trial anyway that he could have used for a test run.

Again, I couldn't be happier and at the same time, I couldn't be angrier at True Visions for dropping the NRL from their ridiculously priced shit service. Come renewal time this year I'll be looking for a fucking huge cut in price (they're known to do this for long term customers who aren't happy) or they can stick it up their arse.

Really enjoyed the games but am glad the wallet was firmly clamped shut!. Picked 3 from 8 winners and would have got towelled up badly if having a punt!.

Fuck them, already cut ours off. Over-priced bollocks.

Bit gutted that RugbyPass isn't showing the RL anymore also. I might have to check out this watchnrl.com too but I'm a bit concerned about the lag/drop out because I already get that at times on RugbyPass (we have a shit connection).

Ps. Fuck you too Warriors, you're not fooling me again!

^As mentioned they've got a free 2 week trial where you can cancel at any time, so you've got nothing to lose by giving it a crack + if you timed it right you'd get to see 2 weekends worth of games for nix .

I didn't give the Warriors a snowballs chance in hell, more so as their record in Perth is something like 11 for 0!. They looked pretty good for a first outing, amazing what a difference it makes when Johnson isn't lazy, RTS remembers why he's one of the best #1's you're ever likely to see, Issac Luke starts running the ball, and they they play 2 halves of footy instead of 1 then going to sleep. Best performance of the weekend goes to the Knights, the players and fans celebrated like they'd won the Grand Final 555!. The Bronco's are my big concern, that fucking Milford can illuminate or infuriate but for the money he's on now he'd better be able to get his shit together quick smart and start steering the team around the paddock or the Bronx won't be making the 8 .

Certainly did but I did take some Doggies positives from the game.

Their attacking has improved so now they have to learn how to tackle.

Mine is a pretty solid 20mps. Anyway I'm ok to just download to the phone first at the highest quality and then just chromecast to the TV.

I think its a better result than using RugbyPass.

As a bonus you can also watch The Matty Johns Show, League Life and The Professor that RugbyPass didn't (most of those shows are crap though)

^ There's a new show on Ch 9 tonight ... 100% Football, or something like that.

Probably a decade since I've watched the Thur night Footy Show as it infotainment.

I just want Footy talk and analysis ... hopefully it will be that.

^They changed the format of The Footy Show this year, I watched the first episode of 2018 last Thursday. Fatty got the flick, no sign of Beau Ryan, and a taped recording of Small Talk was the only sighting of the Big Marn. Erin Molan is the anchor now, the show is 1hr long and trying to be more about football than entertainment, and I won't be watching it again. Thnx for the head-up on this new show, will watch it today for sure.

Edit: Just searched this new show to see its hosted by (among others) Gould and Gallen. Will still watch it, but it won't be easy with 2 of the top 10 people I'd like to punch in the face waffling on about how good the Panthers and Sharks will be this year .

Fear not, for God has spoken.

Mel Meninga has confidently predicted that the Warriors will be in the final eight.
