The 17 year old girl pilot that had the crash landing is in surgery for a fractured spine.

I hope she comes out of it OK.

Considering the speed of that crash, she is one very lucky girl.

The father of 17-year-old Sophia Flörsch was quoted by the motor-racing website motorsport-magazin.com as saying that the doctors who had conducted the operation were satisfied with its outcome.


"Sophia will be monitored in the intensive-care unit, where she will spend this Monday night," he said.

A spokesman for the health authorities in Macau said Flörsch had sustained a fractured cervical vertebra in the crash, and that the doctors had "deliberately worked slowly" during the 11-hour-long operation in order to minimize the associated risks.

According to her father, the Munich-area native broke her seventh cervical vertebra in the crash. However, he said her spinal cord had not been not damaged and confirmed that she had shown no signs of paralysis before the operation.

Kick off at 10 past the hour. They've just announced that there is a small chance of rain during the race. If it's anything like the rain the region has experienced recently, snorkels and flippers will be de rigeur.

Raikonnen broke down and, while under a VSC, Hamilton bizarrely chose to change tyres on lap 8 that could easily have gone to lap 17.

And appears to be going to the end on Supersofts. They must know the wear on these tyres I suppose.

The advantage obviously being that all the people in front of him are going to have to pit when they are at race speeds which puts him miles in front of everyone.

Leclerc pitted as well which might help him, too.
