A great game yesterday between the Dominican Republic and the US. US beat Canada today so they will advance.

What was the score against Canada?...
And who won yesterday?...
Yeah, lost a 5-0 lead to eventually end up losing 7-5. Have to thank the Indians pitcher, Miller, for giving up that three run blast to Cruz from the Mariners.Originally Posted by bsnub
By the way ... watched the Israel game yesterday so researched their team a little to find out only one on the team was born in Israel and several have never been there in their life. Israel is basically just a bunch of minor league Americans.

DR beat the US 5-7. The US was leading 5-3 until good ole Nelson Cruz jacked a two run homer and then it went from there. US and DR are on to the next round.Originally Posted by BaitongBoy

Venezuela is currently down 5-1 playing Mexico. Top of the fourth.

I noticed that too.Originally Posted by Storekeeper
Looks like the organizers are gonna get what they wanted re: Cuba. They won't advance, preventing the spectacle of the team advancing to the Los Angeles round and half the team defecting.
WOW! What a day! First PR knocks of the DR and now USA comes a back to take 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eight after being down 2-0. Amazing baseball here!
So are we close to the finals?...
Hoping for a USA vs Japan final muhself.Originally Posted by bsnub

My wife's hero (next down from my good self) is Ichiro Suzuki... who some of you will know is a baseball God to Japanese people.Originally Posted by Storekeeper
We watched a documentary that followed his journey in America with the Miami Marlins, then to finally hit the winning run against bitter rivals Korea in the finals.
Amazing superstar, graceful Samurai with the bat, tactical genius on the field.

Ichrio was too in love with his personal hits stats during his last couple of seasons with the Mariners.
He's in his mid/late 30s playing every day, just to get his numbers, not for the good of the team.
Will go down deservedly as one of the greats, but like many such players, he's not really a pure hero.

I feel lucky that as a longtime Mariners fan I got to see him play all the years I did. A highly technical hitter who could put the ball almost anywhere he wanted on the field.
It should be mentioned that he won ten straight golden gloves which was at the time and still might be a record. His defense was amazing and his arm was like a Lazar beam. He will be a first ballot hall of famer and will no doubt go in as a Mariner.
Marlins play some games in Seattle this year. April or May I think.Originally Posted by bsnub
Nice catch. April 17,18 and 19. I just may get some tickets for that. That will be the last time he plays at Safeco field.Originally Posted by Storekeeper
I've never been to a baseball game.. Mrs D loves it.. her brother was on the national team (don't quote me, but he was well up the ranks anyway)...
Big baseball family... ya never know, might be a TD baseball meet-up in Japan, in the near future..

Re: Ichiro, espn did one of their lists about a year ago (top 100 baseball players of all time), and they had him ranked somewhere in the 60s I believe.
Wonder what his stats would look like if he played his entire career in MLB?
Awesome game tonight! US knockout the DR 6-3 and it's on to the semi's.
