Fresh water fishing

C'mon all, let's hear your tales of catching Moby Dick and such like....

I am a keen freshwater fisherman and would like to swap hints and such with same minded people.

Tips for where to fish, lures, bait, etc

I haven't made the move to LOS yet, but I do intend to indulge in some freshwater sportfishing when I get there . Not those big catfish they get in the parks though.

There are a few good vids on Youtube if you are outside Thailand and can receive them.

If I were to hook that, I would like to remove the aquatic objects before my raging erection subsided,

I used to be in angler in the UK in my teens, so, I wouldn't mind taking the hobby back up in Thailand.
The thing that puts me off, is that I've found here in Thailand, that if there are no bites, there are no fish. If there are fish, they hook themselves. There just doesn't seem to be any skill in it.
In the UK you would have to use the right bait at the right place at the right time. Even then, you had to use skill to hook the fish as they were cunning bastards. They would play with the bait awhile before putting it in their mouths.
Can fresh water fishing in Thailand be like this and not just "shooting fish in a barrel"?

When going for "snakehead" or "shadow"(what the thai call them) it's more like hunting. Similar to trout fishing. They lurk under overhangs and such.
Your retrieve is splashy affair to make a disturbance on the surface making them come up and strike. I haven't actually caught one yet! But I've seen them rise. I did catch a jungle perch which is a nice fish too. They cruise around in schools of 3-4 fish and feed in reedy areas.
The Khao Sok park is a beautiful spot too. So it's worth going just to take in the scenery up there. Fairly easy trip out of here.

Sir Burr,
I have fished many lakes in Isaan and you do have to have local knowledge as in one case not getting any bites and next to us they were pulling them in, asked what bait used and it was kai moot daeng, red ant eggs.
On my local lake it is a mixture of bread, scent and polystyrene balls

Oh dear! I misread the title. I though it read 'Fresh water fisting'. I'll leave you lot to it then.
