Tiger Woods' comeback to begin Dec 1

Tiger Woods' comeback to begin Dec 1

Tiger Woods, pictured on October 20, 2016, will return from injury on December 1, 2016 in the Bahamas

LOS ANGELES - Tiger Woods will make his long-awaited return from injury at next month's Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, the former world number one confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
Woods jolted the golf world last month after aborting his planned comeback at the Safeway Open in California, sparking fresh uncertainty about his career after a 16-month layoff.
However the 40-year-old 14-time major winner said he would now be ready to host and play in his December 1-4 tournament at Albany in the Bahamas

Hero World Challenge at Albany and play in this terrific tournament," Woods said.

Woods had already hoped to play in the Bahamas despite the concerns over his form, which prompted him to withdraw from the Safeway in Napa.

The 18-player Hero World Challenge is owned by his charity foundation. Woods, who has won the tournament five times before, made a similar return from injury at the event in 2014.

Woods told US television late night host Stephen Colbert last month his game has shown signs of improvement since his recovery from two separate operations on his back in 2015.

"I'm not quite there, where I feel like I can shoot 63s and 64s in tournaments," Woods said.

"I'm shooting the low rounds at home. But I just don't quite feel quite as ready to shoot those type scores under tournament conditions."

Woods has won 79 US PGA titles, three shy of Sam Snead's all-time record, and is four shy of the record 18 majors won by Jack Nicklaus.

Woods was a vice captain for the triumphant US Ryder Cup team at Hazeltine in October. He has been named an assistant captain to Steve Stricker for next year's Presidents Cup.

The Hero World Challenge field features the cream of world golf, with the four reigning major champions, the top 11 players available from the world rankings along with the defending champion and two special-exemption players.

There's large volumes of people who think he can still overhaul Jack by winning another 5 Majors. He's even said he thinks he can, and recently. I have serious doubts he can win on the PGA tour again, let alone a Major, and you'd have to be on drugs to think he's got 5 more of them in him. If he could have kept his cock in his pants and continued at the level he was playing at *that time*, it would be a very different story...

He's by far the best player most of us have ever seen or will ever see, but if he realistically thinks he can come back and beat guys like Rory, JD, DJ, Jordan, Henrik, Phil, etc, he's completely dillusional. Back him at ridiculously low odds at your own peril!.

Woods is now 40, will be 41 in December.

Even Nicklaus won only one major age 41+.

I doubt he will every regain his old form. Flaws took control of his game and he dug himself a big hole overthinking what he was doing wrong. His relentless perfectionism was both a blessing and a curse with him.

Hey, it's Christmas...Give him a break...I got a card from him and he said that he's gonna catch Nicklaus in a year or two...Just like when he first hit the circuit...Win everything "on steroids," and retire...

I remember when he first appeared on the scene...Nobody could forget that...Who was this kid who was virtually winning every tournament he entered?...Unheard of...Impossible...Not in a game like golf...And yet he was doing it...

I figured this was a "billion dollar baby," right there...In a class of his own...

Remember when Ali beat Foreman in the "Jungle?"...Nobody believed he would win that bout...Nobody but himself...

However, I just can't see Tiger doing this...But it would be a charm if he could return with the same fire and do it all over again...
