Nick Blackwell vs Chris Eubank Jr

Deserves a thread of it own!

    What a fight...

Take nothing away from Blackwell who showed immense guts to keep going when others would have been stopped.

He looks distraught at losing the fight, but the right call has been made.

Eubank Jr dominated this fight for most of the rounds - landing the eye-catching punches and moving out of the way of Blackwell.

The challenger never appeared to be in any trouble, and although he looked as if he was tiring, he did more than enough in the early round to have won this on points had it gone the distance.

Blackwell would have probably needed a knockout to retain his title and with his eye closing and blood coming out of his nose, this looked a distant chance.

Eubank Jr marches on to bigger and better things - what chance of a re-match with Billy Joe Saunders?

Unfortunately missed the fight, and Kell Brook's 2 round demolition of his defense against Bizier. Hopefully, will get it replayed on Box Nation later.

Hope Blackwell is okay. Stretchered out of the ring on oxygen doesn't sound good.

Nick Blackwell: No surgery planned after bleed on the brain

9 minutes ago From the section Boxing

Surgeons are not planning to operate on Nick Blackwell after he suffered a bleed on the brain following his British middleweight title defeat by Chris Eubank Jr in London on Saturday.

The referee stopped the fight in round 10 on the advice of the doctor, who said Blackwell was unable to continue because of swelling over his left eye.

He was taken to hospital on a stretcher and is currently in an induced coma.

A scan on Sunday revealed no increase in the pressure on his brain.

British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Robert Smith said: "I spoke to one of the doctors this morning and he said there is a bleeding of the brain.

"He's in intensive care, he's in an induced coma and he is resting and being looked after by the experts.

"It's a very normal procedure. They put you in a coma to get the swelling to go down. There's no timescale. Now it's just a matter of waiting and seeing."

^Ditto. Out of greens baloa. Cheers.

At the start of the fight Billy Joe Saunders is showing the Eubanks his version of the (WBO) Middleweight World title.

Big payday for a rematch with Eubanks Jr on the UK domestic scene if he can't get a mega payday with Golovkin or the other supposed Middleweight boys.

Why hasn't the referee stopped the fight?' - Ref under fire after boxer put in coma

This is the moment that boxing legend Chris Eubank Snr told his son not to target his opponent's head, during a fight that led to the injured man being put in an induced coma.

Having watched his son dominate the first eight rounds of the fight against Nick Blackwell, Eubank Snr demanded to know why the referee hadn't stopped the fight.

The former two-weight world champion insisted that Blackwell, currently in an induced coma in hospital, would be seriously hurt if the punishment continued.

"The next time you throw a flurry like that, if the referee doesn't stop it then I don't know what to tell you," Eubank Snr told his son.

"I will tell you this, if he doesn't stop it and we keep on beating him like this he's getting hurt. Why hasn't the referee stopped the fight? I don't get why."

He went on: "Maybe you shouldn't leave it to the referee. But you're not going to take him out to the face, you're going to take him out to the body."

Less than two rounds later, referee Victor Loughlin did eventually call a halt to the fight when Blackwell could no longer see out of his left eye.

The dethroned British middleweight champion collapsed after the results had been read out and was immediately treated by paramedics.

He was taken to hospital having suffered a bleed to his brain but was later reported to be in a stable condition.

Eubank Snr had also repeatedly banged on the canvas in a bid to attract the referee's attention and later said he felt the fight should have been stopped much earlier.

Eubank Snr is himself still haunted by the memories of leaving fighter Michael Watson in a coma 25 years ago.

The high-profile fight was stopped in the final round but, even so, Watson spent 40 days in a coma and had to have six brain operations to remove a blood clot.

Last night's fight saw Eubank Jnr landing eye-catching punches from the off and found it easy to evade Blackwell, who as the fight went on looked more and more like he would need a knock-out to retain his belt. But that never looked forthcoming.

Eubank Jnr appeared as if he was tiring but he did enough in the early rounds to have won on points had it gone the distance.

Blackwell's eye had been closing for a few rounds and blood was coming out of his nose when the referee stopped the fight.

Eubank Jnr said: "I hit him with some big shots, maybe the referee should have stopped the fight earlier. This is what boxing needs, two warriors who stand and fight.

"I have respect to anyone who steps in the ring. It's sad that he had to leave on a stretcher. All I wanted was his belt and I've done that. I've achieved my dream of becoming a British champion."
