If you're talking about next season, you're dreaming. Those teams will not be contenders.

Cards and Seahawks both have relatively minor issues. Whichever team does a better job of plugging up the holes will win the division, barring the random crap that can happen over a short season of course.

pretty much agree. niners are 2-3 yrs away because that roster has been gutted (probably the least talent in the lg). rams have some pieces but need goff to develop (ha!) or to get at least a gm manager FA. someone like tyrod taylor would work wonders in LA.

SEA has contract issues to resolve. team could look quite different next season...Fitz/Palmer determine ARIs fate. they leave and ARI could conceivably finish last (assuming mcvay works some magic in SF).

Palmer has committed to be back. Still waiting on Fitz. Without him it is hard to see them winning the division though I agree.

I think its very likely he'll be back for one more run. The team is too loaded with talent for him to walk away (not that I really know what he'll do of course). It would be a shame to see him walk away now

Why would such a big talent receiver, go to Minn? QB situation very unsettled, not really looking close to being a championship team.

Seattle needs prolly minimum 2 quality O lineman acquisitions, and someone to emerge or be signed as a running back. Essentially, build a running game, because you don't really have one now. I'd say that would be a lot to achieve in one off-season.

Barely in the top 10 in offense. I'd say there are easily a dozen QBs in the NFL better than Palmer. If you look at points per game allowed, they were 14th in the NFL.

He's still under contract, so that isn't happening. He'll either be wearing cardinal red or be lying on a beach somewhere.

fitz is not exactly clamoring to go play with the official checkdown king in min.

Pass interference or no? It could depend on where on the field it happened.



WASHINGTON — They call it working the refs, and, in the NFL at least, it works.

An analysis by the statistics site 538 found that, while noise from the home crowd is thought to influence officials’ calls and non-calls, the side of the field a play flows toward may be a far more important factor.

Authors Noah Davis and Michael Lopez analyzed every regular-season play between 2010 and 2014 and found that defensive pass interference, and other aggressive penalties such as personal fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct and horse-collar tackles, were called significantly more often when plays were run toward the offense’s side of the field than the defense’s.

Conversely, on running plays, offensive holding penalties were called more frequently on plays run toward the defensive side of the field.

The hypothesis is simple — an official has more players and coaches screaming for a call on one side of the field or another — and the numbers hold that up: The difference was even more stark when the play happened between the 32-yard lines — the bench area where players and coaches are allowed to congregate. When the action was closer to one of the goal lines, without players and coaches offering — um, advice, the difference was less noticeable, and in some cases reversed.

The numbers cut against the referees’ self-perception as unflappable straight shooters — Davis told WTOP he spoke with a prominent former NFL referee who had officiated three Super Bowls who “just refused to believe the numbers we have were true” — but they’re hard to deny.

“The differences in the penalty rates from sideline to sideline are several times larger than the differences in penalty rates between the home and away teams,” the authors write.

Davis and Lopez write that the effect is called “cue learning” — it’s why, for example, people laugh longer when other people are laughing, and why we eat more when we’re around overweight people.

Officials have to make snap judgments at high speed and without replay, so it’s harder to get it right than it is for those sitting and watching in the stands or on TV and leaves officials open to the kind of influence Davis and Lopez found, Davis said.

“I’m amazed refs get calls right as often as they do,” Davis told WTOP — although, as he acknowledged, their numbers reflect not only what gets called but what doesn’t.

The crowd-noise factor is still real, and happens in other sports: The authors cite a German study in which soccer referees watched videos of borderline plays accompanied by varying levels of crowd noise, which found that “referee decisions are strongly influenced by crowd noise” and that home-field advantage is real.

And there’s not much to do about such subconscious bias if it isn’t at least acknowledged.

Davis said he and Lopez could soon be taking another look at the data to see whether certain teams already know what they’ve found out, and are perhaps using as a factor in their play-calling.

NE is not that good, tbh. theyve just played no one all yr. PIT will win. ATL will win a shootout vs GB. ryan will put up truly absurd #s.

Fitz only has one goal left according to him, which is to win a super bowl. I don't think MIN is close enough. I believe Fitz is trying to decide whether ARI is.

With due respect the Cards are not close enough either.

Regardless, I hope Fitz returns if he truly wants to.

^^They came within a game of it last season. Look at a team like Carolina, Super Bowl one year total total dud the next. A lot can change in one offseason, I think he is waiting to see what they do. Put Palmer behind the Cowboys O-line and he is a top 5 QB. Last year when he was second in MVP voting the only glaring difference in his game was that the line held up behind him.

I think Fitz is waiting to see how they address their problems, and the turnstile offensive line that killed their offense has gotta be first on the list, with an emphasis on special teams running a close second

Would be nice to see an ATL-PIT Superbowl. We shall see, I'll be rooting for whoever comes out of the NFC regardless
