I saw Nolan Ryan visiting NY at Shea Stadium when I was knee high to a bar stool when he was a rook. He struck out the 1st 13 batters, then retired due to blisters. About 20 years later I saw him throw a no hitter against the A's. We had front row directly behind the plate. Bottom of the 8th he said "all heat from now on. Come & get it boys.' He was throwing 95+ in the 9th (the guy w/the radar gun was right in front of us)...... BTW: The Gigantes wasted a good one from Bum today when they failed to turn an easy DP. Kershaw once again proved he's the best in the business, though he did give up a HR to Bumgarner. 3-2 in 10.

Good you saw Ryan. I don't think I saw him (maybe a I did when I was a kid in the 1970s. ?)

I'm watching a few innings of the Dodger vs. Giants games with Kershaw and Bum.

I watched several in innings of the Bets vs. Phillies with Barolo Colon. I love watching Colon pitch.

I watched the Mariners this morning lose to the A's. The M's seem weak on fielding with errors and busted routine plays at the MLB level. I know the season is very young, so I hope they can clean up their fielding.

For those who don't want to pay for it: https://www.reddit.com/r/MLBStreams/ FWIW, Youtube streams are the best (but the can get taken down quickly) & VLC streams take the Silver. If there's neither - go for the ones with the most upvotes.

    Cheers, wacky.

I chose to pay for MLB TV and am very happy.

I think it's great value with all of the features given for $109 usd.

Dodgers overcome Giants homers, win in 10th

SAN FRANCISCO -- Same score, different finish.

This time, it was the San Francisco Giants who squandered a late lead as the Los Angeles Dodgers inched by them to capture a 3-2 decision in 10 innings Saturday. That was the final score in San Francisco's 10-inning victory Friday. This time, the Giants led in the ninth, 2-1, yet couldn't maintain the advantage while using six relievers in the last four innings. Charlie Culberson, a former Giants farmhand, rapped a 10th-inning double to drive in Corey Seager from second with the winning run.

The Dodgers forced extra innings in the ninth as reserve second baseman Kelby Tomlinson, giving Joe Panik a day off, bobbled Adrian Gonzalez's potential double-play grounder with the bases loaded and one out. Chase Utley scored the tying run as Tomlinson had to settle for throwing out Gonzalez at first base.
Both teams are 4-2 now but the Dodgers haven't played at home yet.

I tried MLB for a month & with my slow internet speeds here in Cambo, I found that the free stuff worked better mostly. Same with basketball & NFL.

Giants came back from a 5-0 deficit through 3 HRs to beat LA 9-6 taking 3/4. Cueto looked fucking awful........... Here's a tidbit I read on Reddit the other day - the average BB watcher is 50 fucking 7 years old ! The game is just way too slow for the kids today. They would rather watch paint dry. It sure doesn't bode well for the future of the game.

^ Doesn't seem right to have to play 4 in a row in SF to open the season, not to mention the first three in SD. 3/4 in SF, 4-3 overall, all on the road. I guess baseball schedules don't consider the home opener at all.

Please, no cliches like "that's life". Or even a comment on these two sentences. Sarcasm in reply to this post will prolly cause me to no longer consider being a part of the playful banter between fans of L.A. and S.F. or between L.A. and any club.

On second thought, I guess the blade does go deeper when administered by the Giants, however. So I'm subject to changing my mind re: this decision. But so that you know the boundaries of my patience with this thread, the following quote by AO got a real good laugh from me and was very well appreciated (greenie worthy).

    Well,

The M's bats are cold, and there have been tons of player LOB during the A's series.

Felix pitched well, only to be denied (again).

Been that way his entire career in Seattle. The year he won the Cy Young his record was 13-12 if I'm not mistaken. But, still ... the last couple of years his ERA is starting to creep up.

Yeah, lowest Cy Young win total ever. Ain't like he didn't deserve it though. He's had to learn how to pitch with the natural loss of velocity as he ages - talk about under-appreciated.

    Yup.

And....30 be comin'. That isn't a death sentence, but Felix has a lot of innings pitched under his belt.

I hope he's got that "it."

He's throwing more curves and other pitches now in his repertoire.

He has to. Adapt or die.

Watched the M's vs. Texas game (April 11th).

Shitty at the plate. Lost 4 in a row. Wonder if it's a sign of things to come.

Saw some of Jon Lester with the Cubs win over Cincy. I wonder what makes Lester worth the $155 million deal he got last year.

^ Does anybody think Felix is HOF material at this point? Yeah, he has a Cy Young but I don't see him ever getting to 250 wins much less the magic number of 300 to get in. And he's never won 20 in a season ... Yet.

    SK,

I just read this article below and thought of your post above about Felix getting screwed by the M's after great pitching performances.

Sadly, Felix is considered the #1 pitcher in the Majors that produces games with 0 runs or 1 run and a .088 ERA, only to not get a win or actually get the loss.

    fookin' sad.

Seattle Mariners' Felix Hernandez is unluckiest pitcher of all time - SweetSpot- ESPN

As for the King getting into the HoF, perhaps the jury is still out, and we don't know how many more years or games he has at the moment.

I grew up attending UW Huskies games at Husky stadium from the years of 1975 to about 1989. Some years, attending more games than others.

As for baseball, I've always preferred watch baseball on TV, and would go to a couple or few games per year with friends or family as a 'social event.' Go out, attend game, drink beers before, during and after with a meal.

Why? Because live baseball bores me. (Sorry baseball oficionados.) I do however, enjoy the game on TV.

Another rea$on for my lack of attendance (which started when I was at the game when A-rod returned to Seattle with the Rangers and the fans booed and threw monopoly money in the air from the upper-stands) was the money, MY money that constantly left my pockets at games.

I remember paying a lot ($6?) for a small cup of beer. I also bought a chincey cheap hot dog. Parking, etc.

Here is an interesting list of the average cost: And note, a lot of people bring their kid or kids to the game, so triple or quadruple it.

Mariners 5th-most expensive gameday experience in MLB

    April 11, 2016

SEATTLE – The Mariners have the longest active postseason drought in Major League Baseball at 15 years. But Mariners fans still pay among the highest on average to attend a game.

GoBankingRates.com ranked the most and least expensive stadiums for MLB fans to watch a ball game. They looked at the cost of two tickets, two hot dogs, two beers, and parking.

The Mariners ranked 5th at $94.71. That’s $53.71 for a pair of tickets, $9 for two hot dogs, $12 for two beers and $20 for parking.

The average cost for just two tickets to the M’s is more than it costs for all four items at an L.A. Angels game. The Angels are the least expensive game day experience.

    The list:

Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park: $157
    Chicago Cubs, Wrigley Field: $116.06
New York Yankees, Yankee Stadium: $109.40
Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Centre: $109.38
    Seattle Mariners, Safeco Field: $94.71
New York Mets, Citi Field: $94.19
San Francisco Giants, AT&T Park: $90.81
Kansas City Royals, Kauffman Stadium: $89.40
    Washington Nationals, Nationals Park: $85.90
    Philadelphia Phillies, Citizens Bank: $82.49
St. Louis Cardinals, Busch Stadium: $81.30
    Milwaukee Brewers, Miller Park: $80
    Cleveland Indians, Progressive Field: $76.40
    Detroit Tigers, Comerica Park: $70.60
Tampa Bay Rays, Tropicana Field: $69.11
Chicago White Sox, U.S. Cellular Field: $68.45
Houston Astros, Minute Maid Park: $66.23
    Miami Marlins, Marlins Park: $65.93
San Diego Padres, Petco Park: $65.80
Baltimore Orioles, Oriole Park at Camden Yards: $65.63
Texas Rangers, Globe Life Park: $65.60
    Atlanta Braves, Turner Field: $65.34
    Oakland Athletics, O.co Coliseum: $63.71
    Pittsburgh Pirates, PNC Park: $62.43
Cincinnati Reds, Great American Ball Park: $61.30
    Minnesota Twins, Target Field: $60.40
    Colorado Rockies, Coors Field: $59.30
    Arizona Diamondbacks, Chase Field: $57.93
Los Angeles Dodgers, Dodger Stadium: $55.10
Los Angeles Angels, Angel Stadium: $47.60

Sad reality. Everything in Seattle is becoming over the top expensive. Shocked that we are over the Giants though. I am not paying $10 for a beer they can go fuck themselves.

Minimum wage $15.oo per hour. Washing dishes for eight hours five days a week = $600.
That's $30,000 per year minimum for washing dishes, pots and pans.

Seattle , baby...Nirvana, Pearl Jam , MSFT, Starbucks , Amazon , lumber assets, North Pacific fishing fleet, high tech , I-5 hub between California and Canada, China connection , American apples, and most of what remains as Boeing seeks to reduce labour costs.

    What's a rookie police officer's salary without overtime and benefits...$60,000 ? A teacher ?

    Peecoffee,

The dish washing job is PART-TIME. This dishwasher needs at least 2 jobs to barely pay the rent on a studio or a shared house.

You're mixing apples and oranges: Nirvana was 22 years ago - ended when Kurt allegedly killed himself in 1994.

Fishing fleet? Long gone. Done. The industry is a skeleton.

Amazon? Rough culture or young new to be elites perhaps, if they move on.

I-5 hub to Cali? That does not mean shit. I drove it for years.

Perhaps you are referring to Silicon - a different world than Seattle.

    What's a rookie police officer's salary without overtime and benefits...$60,000 ? A teacher ?
Don't know a rookie cop's salary but many make $40K+ - which is not a lot gross.

Teacher? in Seattle they have it rought.

Mate, you're off-topic, I though we were talking prices of tickets, food, parking here?

    Morning savages,

I'm watching Syndergaard. He's smokin' 'em.

11 strikeouts after 5 innings. Struck out the side twice.

    Edit in:

Ichiro just got a hit. 64 to go.

I like Seattle, especially during both months of Summer. I far prefer the cities a buck & change North & South though.
