The Crusaders are interesting because they look very good at times, asthough they could beat any side, but under pressure in a high intensity game they do crack (a bit like the Chiefs?); standard CKB tackle deficiencies...

The Highlanders and Hurricanes, like last year, seem to be a step above the other teams at crunch time? We will see.
How do I post these pictures???

Anyways, I'm willing to offer odds of 3-1 for the Brumbies winning the competition if anybody would like some of that!

The Saders only issue this year is that they haven't been able to beat the other Kiwi teams (Blues aside). They've swept the Aussie and SA sides.

That's more to do with the relative strengths of the conferences than anything I reckon.

37-43 in week 6, and the Lions will be fresher and more motivated. A must win, at home, crowds outside the Crusaders hotel singing all night, a special chef bought in to cook some special pre-match food for the Crusaders...

I don't see the Crusaders winning that, sorry.

We will have to agree to disagree on that one then.

Regardless the Lions completely blew it with that last game. If they do happen to win they'll be traveling for a semi (most likely to NZ) so that whole resting their players thing will be moot.

If they came second in the overall table, then why would they be travelling for a semi?

I'm asking because I don't understand how the rules work out for assigning semis/final.

I'll add, I don't reckon the Lions can win a semi and a final in CKBland - tough for any team, but at home they have a chance.

Actually I have that wrong, it would be for a final (Canes will have all three at home as top qualifiers if they win through).

Semis will be 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 and final highest finishing spot vs. lowest.

Reet, so if the Highlanders beat the Hurricanes (very possible, imho) then the Lions can have home matches all the way through...

Not necessarily because they both finished on 52 points so it will be a tiered count-back.

But moot point because the Saders are going to slay them.

Edit: actually it will be Highlanders home game because they beat the Lions during the season.

Ohh, that's not good for the Lions.

I fancy the Highlanders for the competition. This fella took a majestic high ball on his try line this week:

    Lovely man.

That's what's dumb about this conference system.

Highlanders (52 points) travel to play the Brumbunnies (43) and Chiefs (51) travel to play the Stormers (also 51 but worse record).

Any one of the QF teams could win it. It's a big ask to travel to Africa and win....but a bigger ask if the Africans were to travel the other way.

Looking forward to the games, that's for sure.

Actually looking forward to watching the Lions...just not sure who I want to win. Hated The Crusaders all my life...and I ain't going to stop now. That Jaco Kriel has more toe than a roman sandal....and that little Faf bloke at halfback is sharp.

Revealed: The best Super rugby team of all time

The 2002 Crusaders were ranked as the number one team in Super Rugby history by the Elo rating system. Photo / Geoff Sloan

The Elo rating system was designed to measure the relative merits of chess masters
A modified algorithm has transferred successfully to other sports, including basketball
The Herald has used the system to chart every Super Rugby franchise since inception in 1996
It takes into account strength of opposition and home-field advantage
Each franchise starts with a base rating of 1300 points and all teams move closer to the mean during the offseason
The raw Elo scores are adjusted to take into account the fact the length of the season has changed
The Elo ratings are adjusted in the offseason to make 1500 the mean

They would have to be pretty weak not to win.Chiefs have something like 10 guys out of their squad through injury.

Blimey, the Brumbies stadium is empty...

Apart from an utterly shite back 3, the Brumbies have a decent team.

(Ben Smith butchered an easy overlap in the first minute; should've been a try there.)

If the Brumbies spent as much time playing rugby as they do complaining to the ref then they'd be a decent team.

    Fekitoa is really really shite...

I've lost all respect for Moore since he became captain.

That constant whiny voice of his, jeez!

    YES!!!

Would've been a bit of a travesty if the Brumbunnies had snuck that one.

Not a great game, but a different ref and those scrums at the end may have been a penalty try - the Highlanders were on the floor of the last three scrums before the ball came out; should've been penalties again rather than play-on, ball out, imho.

Nonetheless, the Brumbies didn't do enough to win...
