At this stage in the baseball season my team is out so I'll cheer for the Bluejays. Like RA Dickey and Price but that little 5'8" pitcher Marcus Stroman is bad ass ...

THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE: POWERBALL WINNER SPENDS $9 MILL TO BAIL BOYFRIEND OUT OF JAIL…TWICE

You may remember back in February, we were all excited to learn that Marie Holmes, the 26-year-old, single mother of four, had won the Powerball lottery.

Holmes, of North Carolina, decided that she was going to accept her $188 million winnings in one lump sum, meaning she was awarded $127 million. After taxes, she received $88 million. And while Holmes announced that she had plans to pay her tithes and set up college funds for her children, she’s ended up doing something entirely different with her riches.

Shortly after she won the money, Holmes posted $3 million bond for her boyfriend Lamarr McDow. McDow was in jail, facing heroin trafficking charges. McDow was implicated after an investigation unearthed more than 8,000 bags of heroin.

But Holmes found herself behind bars too recently. Last month, police came to her home to arrest McDow who had violated conditions of his parole by missing curfew. When officers searched the house, they found McDow had a .45 caliber pistol and there was less than a half an ounce of the drug and paraphernalia in Holmes’ Brunswick County home.

She then spent an additional $6 million to get McDow out of prison. He was released with a GPS monitoring device.

Two other people in the house were also charged with simple possession. Three children were present at the time of the arrest, McDow said they were his children.

According to WWAY, Holmes and McDow are engaged. And they also reported that Holmes took to the news station’s Facebook page to respond to criticism about the story which has been reported, for the most part, on local news outlets

“What Y’all need to be worried about is Y’all money and not how I spend mine this is benefitting Y’all how? And no he’s no drug dealer or user but who are Y’all to judge anybody? I will definitely pray for Y’all because it’s much need…they talked about Jesus so I’m not surprised Y’all are talking about me but be blessed though,”

This morning, when I first read the story, I was trying to give Holmes the benefit of the doubt. There are plenty of Black men who are arrested for little to nothing. But 8,000 bags of heroin is not nothing, even if less than an ounce of marijuana is.

While we can certainly question Holmes’ choices in both men and behavior, we really don’t have any right to tell her what to do with her money.

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s for people to count other folks’ money. No matter who that person may be. We are generally too concerned with what other people are doing. She is right in that our perception of her squandering money really doesn’t benefit anyone, particularly since it was never ours to begin with. Sadly, that’s what happens with lottery winners. We seek to learn how these lucky people are spending money we wish we had. And a single, Black mother supporting her alleged drug-dealing boyfriend is local news gold. As it gives the average Joe a chance to turn his nose up at the rich.

If Holmes wants to spend up her newfound fortune on a man, in and out of jail, that’s her decision to make. If some of us are honest with ourselves, if we had $3 or $6 or $9 million dollars to give, we’d likely be bailing our loved ones out of jail too. Truth be told, it’s easy to shake our heads and wag our fingers in disgust and disapproval; but we’ve all done crazy, foolish and even expensive things for love.

    GO CUBS AND BLUEJAYS!!!

    And, ahem, we'll talk again.
“The Master said, At fifty, I knew what were the biddings of Heaven. At sixty, I heard them with docile ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right.”

Amazin' Mets sweep Cubs for 5th NL pennant

CHICAGO -- For the fourth time in as many games in the National League Championship Series, the Mets tallied first, and they didn't let up, posting an 8-3 victory over the Cubs on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field to complete a sweep and reach the World Series for the first time since 2000. New York will face the winner of the Royals-Blue Jays American League Championship Series, which the Royals lead, 3-2.

Daniel Murphy set a Major League record by homering in his sixth straight postseason game when he hit a two-run shot in the eighth, Lucas Duda drove in five runs, hitting a three-run homer in the first and a two-run double in the second and Travis d'Arnaud also went deep in the first to power the Mets, who won their fifth NL pennant. They also won the pennant in 1969, 1973, 1986 and 2000. The Mets have won the World Series twice, in '69 and '86.

"This city deserves this. This organization deserves this. The fans deserve it. And this group of guys deserve it," Mets third baseman David Wright said. "You gotta believe. I can't stop saying it, 'We're going to the World Series.' This is an incredible feeling. Words can't describe the emotion that's on this field right now. This is incredible."

Murphy was named NLCS Most Valuable Player after hitting .529 with four homers and six RBIs during the four games.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon was hopeful before Game 4. In the first three games of the NLCS, everything had gone the Mets' way, from Murphy to pitching to baserunning to taking advantage of every Chicago mistake. The Cubs needed to reverse their luck, so he brought back the magician.

In late June, the Cubs had lost five in a row when Maddon invited the magician to perform at Citi Field. The Cubs proceeded to sweep the Mets, and win seven of their next nine games. The magic didn't work this time, as the Mets made the Cubs' hopes of reaching the World Series disappear.

"That was a pretty impressive four games they played against us," Maddon said. "They didn't give us -- they did not let us up for air at any point. Their domination of the early part of the game and their pitching was impressive. They played well, they didn't make mistakes. So it's not so much to be disappointed in our performance. They were just that good for four days, man. I've got to give them credit."

The odds favored the Mets in the NLCS. The only team in MLB history to rally from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series was the 2004 Red Sox, who beat the Yankees in the ALCS.

Chicago posted the third-best record in the Major Leagues, winning 97 games, and they defeated the Pirates in the NL Wild Card Game and the Cardinals in the NL Division Series. But the Mets' young pitching took center stage in the NLCS. In Game 4, it was rookie Steven Matz, who had climbed to the top of the Wrigley Field scoreboard earlier in the week. The lefty did not give up a hit until a leadoff double by Jorge Soler in the fourth, and he exited after allowing one run over 4 2/3 innings. Bartolo Colon picked up the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Cubs starter Jason Hammel allowed five runs over 1 1/3 innings for the loss.

    MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
    Back-to-back:
Duda and d'Arnaud almost immediately quieted a sold-out Wrigley Field crowd when they bashed consecutive homers off Hammel in the first inning. That gave Matz a four-run lead before he ever took the mound. Duda wasn't finished, hitting a two-run double off Travis Wood the next inning.

Leadoff man: Soler doubled to lead off the fourth, the first Cubs hit leading off an inning in the series. Kris Bryant then walked and Anthony Rizzo singled to load the bases, but third baseman Wright made a perfectly timed leap to catch Starlin Castro's liner. The Cubs did tally on Kyle Schwarber's groundout to first, but shortstop Wilmer Flores grabbed Javier Baez's foul ball near the Chicago bullpen to end the inning.

Will post game highlights when available on youtube. Meanwhile:

Wow, you canucks are sure down on yourselfs, eh? No hope whatsoever? It's just KC, man. And it's on here in LOS at 7 AM on Fox Sport 2. I'll prolly be up and watch it. See if either team is as amazin' as them Mets.

American League team gets home field advantage this year for winning the All Star game. The format is 2-3-2. I think I like that better than 2-2-1-1-1. Seems to give both teams a home field advantage at some point.

It's the first World Series to be played by expansion teams (teams that were formed after 1960).

Toronto has won the World Series in '92 and '93, the first team not based in the U.S. to do so.

Bautista leads off top of the fourth with a solo homer (428 ft) to cut KC lead in half. Now, 2-1.

Bautista hits a 2 run homer (his second of the game) in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game: 3 - 3. Fans have been on their feet since the seventh but don't WTF for now.

Game over. Royals win 4 - 3. Very exciting ninth inning, though. Blue Jays had a runner on 3rd with no outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. 3 guys on Blue Jays just couldn't cope with the pressure: 2 strikeouts and ground out to end the game: with fucking Bautista on deck.
