Wayne Rooney Equals England Scoring Record

Wayne Rooney became his country's joint top scorer of all-time as England qualified for the Euro 2016 finals with a 6-0 win over San Marino.

The 29-year-old now has 49 goals in 106 games for the Three Lions - the exact same record as World Cup winner Sir Bobby Charlton.

Rooney was withdrawn on 59 minutes in Serravalle but will have an opportunity to claim the outright record when England face Switzerland on Tuesday.

Roy Hodgson's team became the first to book a place in the Euros, which will be staged in France next summer.

They did so with three games to spare.

Goals from Ross Barkley, Theo Walcott (2), Harry Kane and Cristian Brolli (OG) tied up the win after Rooney's first-half penalty.

Rooney admitted prior to kick-off that personal records were not enough, and that "it's about trophies you win".

The Manchester United striker has scored just six of his England goals at major tournaments - including a solitary strike in a World Cup.

It should be more about how one conducts themselves, providing a good example to youngsters emulating, and so on. He's a talented sod, of that there's no doubt, but his personality sucks. Always spits when the camera's on him, in a surly way. He must see footage of himself on tv so I don't see why he's not aware of that.

    Arrogant scouse twat.

He'll pass Bobby Charlton's record no doubt, but will never be revered in the same way.

    Bobby's an icon
