    Bastian Schweinsteiger

From a short zippy little fancy-dan winger, to genuine central midfielder who pwns world cup games. A lesson on how to mature as a footballer.

75 odd caps at 25 years old.

1 victory away from a treble at Bayern last season.

    Germany:

Four under 21s Ozil, Muller, Khedira and Boateng. Neuer is 25, Lahm is 26.

The future's looking very bright indeed.

Yeah, he shocked me. I didn't realize he'd become such a good (and mature) player.

This German International XI might not be quite good enough this WC, though their performance yesterday is a real step up for them; should fill them with confidence and help them to reach the next level...

Even though we're out, I'm really looking forward to watching A Vs G. The Germans could pull out a shock, but I'd slightly favour the Argies.

Next WC, the Germans will probably be at their peak; could go all the way. But, let's not rule them out of 2010 just yet!

looking forward to seeing how they handle the faster tempo Argies. Going to be a cracking game.

Going to be some big summer bids for half their team me thinks. Ozil to Man U for starters.

I feel that tall German Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack, who got fouled out of the world cup and missed out because he was injured probably saved the German's selector's embarrassment by not selecting him even if he was fit.

Then again they will probably miss his experience in the big games coming up.

That bloke with the Mr. Bean eyes is like lightning and ran straight past the English defence as if they were standing still.

    They probably were.

Think that's Ozil. Number 8. shit-hot. Prolly my player for the tournament so far, if not Bastian.

Lahm, Ozil, Schweinsteiger, Podolski, Khedira, Neuer etc . . . all young and brilliant.

2012 and 2016 should be good fun.

Agreed on Özil and Neuer both tremendous prospects (Neuer has been for some time).

The leading scorer in the Bundesliga (Kiessling) has barely had a look in yet! Things are looking decidedly good for Germany. The Argentinian defence is suspect and Heinze is a liabilty.

Chairman Mao maybe United could have afforded one of them pre tournament (Özil) but now? Where's the money coming from? United haven't got a pot to piss in.

Off-topic slightly, but doesn't "schweinsteiger" translate as "pig fucker" or similar?

"Bastian" also sounds just like "bastard" which is an obviously added sweary bonus. Top name.

Nope, had this discussion before. Steigen means to climb. Besteigen means to mount

Deal in place to move to Utd.

Both clubs confirmed. Only personal terms and medical to go.

Bladdy good move for Man U.

I'm hoping he will excel . . . especially after Özil hasn't exactly taken the league by the scruff of the neck.

Schweini (piggy) will certainly bring toughness and creativity - shame it will be for ManU

A midfield triangle of The Kraut, Fellaini, Herrara, With Di Maria, Rooney and Mata/Depay ahead is looking good.

Or a diamond of The Kraut, Fellaini, Herrara, Di Maria.

Now they just need an animal of a CB, a replacement for De Gea and decent striker.

I'd be surprised if they keep Di Maria, he clearly finds the premier league too rough and tumble.

Or to put it another way, he's a big girls blouse.
