It's not healthy. The bloke who invented it died at 52 of a heart attack.

joint injury is probably the main reason older heavier joggers give up, I've got a good quality indoor exercise bike that I've been useing for a year now, I've worked up to 40 minutes a day and not once has a drunk car driver lost control and ploughed into me, best buy of the decad.
This is my only concern. After years of tennis, nearly every day up to the age of 19 my left knee is buggered. I made it worse a few years ago when I played a football tournament here when it gave way in a tackle. If I sit down for too long crossed legged it is painful. There is a grass field near me which i will try and after reading a few tips online and here, I will probably try the 2min method. Run 2mins then walk for 2. Do this for a week until I get used to it.

Tennis, cannot get a regular game, and without wishing to sound big-headed I haven't found anyone beyond park level. I ended up paying to play the tennis coaches which costs a fortune if you want to play 3 times a weeks, 2-3 hours each time. In fact, my first post on forum was Thai Visa asking for a partner. We ended up playing badminton. He is out for good as he is on constant medication for his knee having gone through surgery in the 7 years I've known him. He's now my motorcycle buddy.

Jogging I don't have to rely on anyone. I'm swimming anyway but I need more than that.

Jogging/running can he hard work and even unpleasant when overweight and unfit (i.e. at the beginning), but once you get fit and become a regular runner, it can be tremendously pleasurable and really not difficult at all. Two years ago I was running 10 miles a day, 6 days a week and enjoying every minute of it (and I'm not young). And as JJ said, you don't need anyone else to do it.

I managed to get my wife from a standing, very unfit start, to 8km in sub 50 mins. It only took 6 weeks. At the beginning she could not run 400 metres.
We now run together 4-5 times per week.

Hmm, that doesn't sound at all pleasant, If your knee is already that wankered you probably shouldnt jog at all, I'd stick to zero impact exercise

A regular regimen of walking works decently.
Less, the confined convention of deliberate exercise indoor with all your fancy contraptions that you don't require [needless consumption].

    Doesn't cost anything.
Fresh air. Connections with your environment.

Fresh air and an active outdoorsy life is defiantly the bast way to go but for a guy like me recovering for a long illness this needless contraption works well, I can set the resistance to what I can manage and I don't have to worry about if I can make it back home.

I would not advise it unless you have a very light frame and no family history of arthritis. I ran all through my twenties and thirties, five to ten miles a day with one day of rest out of 5. I had to give it up due to time constraints in my forties and tried to pick it up again in my early fifties when I lived in Bangkok. Heat, dogs and eventually joint pain finally did me in. I have had two hip replacements and I blame it all on too much running.

easing your body into Yoga is another way to go. 20 mins.a day.
good pace at walking and a lil bit of jogging.
build it up over 9 months.

fracktured hips are a danger for older dudes when jogging.
getting on a bike is preferable for me.
    easy as you go.

If you have a smartfone, there's loads of good apps

c25k is one. It stands for couch potato to 5kilometres and will gradually get you running that far. Basically what it is, is some bastard telling you to run, walk, run, walk. You can add your own music playlist to it too.

Jogging for aging people, the most stupid thing to think about !

There is a machine called ELLIPTICAL and it's just like jogging without the heat and the risk to injure your knees and ankles.

Any other reply for someone above 40 years old is plain stupid but many will know it after injury <3

i've started jogging after work in the heat.

got me some shoes and there's a big field nearby. felt great after i had recovered from my first run at 3pm, 3km mix of running and walking. was going to go again today but ugh, i completely lack motivation. and if i run in my moobahn i'll be chased down by every fucking dog within sight.

i haven't even played football for weeks either so i'm probably only another takeaway or two from death.
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

Good effort in that heat for a first go.
Just do it every second day. Your improving performance will motivate you.
Download endomondo on iPhone if you have one and this will record and monitor you whilst training.

It's a lot of impact on your knees, dude, Far better to cycle...somewhere safe. With a knee problem I really don't think running is for you. But if you really want to, try fast walking...no impact and all the aerobic benefits.

I think I'd use a turbo trainer in Thailand. Been following a few riders around Korat on Strava, and their routes - which they obviously consider the best for riding in the area - are conducive to getting squashed.

Turbo trainer or national parks would probably be the way forward.

Or yes, the elliptical machines would make for a nice few hours on the balcony in front of a flick.

But hey, let's pull no punches about the fact that I'm a fat cnut and don't really know anything about the subject of fitness.

The repetitive, wearing nature of running and walking is apparently the biggest cause of hip replacements.

It's recommended to use a variety of rotational and other exercises to mitigate the effects, e.g.:
