Town v Country Cup
- Chiang Mai Cricket Club (CMCC) take on Siam Cricket Club (The Parrots)
The Parrots arrived on Friday night except for King Willy who had been hanging round a bit longer. After a good session at the Irish on Friday night to welcome them to town yours truly was very pleased to see CMCC players getting home early in preparation for the match. However after arriving at the field on Saturday morning it soon became clear that one or two of the team had indeed gone on and not gone to bed, thus following a quickly set tradition of CMCC.
Kiwi won the toss and ignoring the effects of the previous weeks rain decided to bat. Ismail and Makki opened the bowling for CMCC. Ismail looked to be near to his best after returning from his back injury and bowled as usual with real pace and accuracy. Makki bowled with real hostility and had King Willy, opening with Pete G, hopping around in his crease. The initial break through came when Pete G. had a rush of blood to the head and tried to charge Ismail and he was clean bowled. Tariq, who was on loan from CMCC to the Parrots, came out to join King Willy and went on to top score. Wickets fell at regular intervals but the Parrots were eventually out for 145 with notable innings from Tariq and Prez. CMCC shared the wickets around with Jardine. taking 3.
The CMCC reply started well enough with Coombesie looking in great form before falling to a great catch by Kiwi down the leg side off Vicky. Dom took up the role as senior batsman at the crease well and got some important runs before falling to a soft caught and bowled off Neal just before the drinks break. Noor fell early to a great bit of stumping by Kiwi and Makki played a rash shot before he was in and was bowled by Vicki. Warni and Aasif looked to be bringing it home before Noor (substitute fielding) court Aasif out on the boundary. Warni played a good innings but eventually fell. In the end Thai stars Opf and Tong knocked off the last 20 runs needed for victory with Opf hitting some of his trademark straight sixes. CMCC coming home winners with 2 wickets to spare.
Afterwards the usual slammers fine session took place with some stiff but well deserved fines for King Willy and his shaved legs!
