not so sure on that, lots of teams have had big money lately and players dont want to come. liverpool at the mo are the perfect example. loads a money yet not many big name signings. although heard torres is coming today.
newcastle have tried, blackburn, fulham, wigan, leeds, all had big money but the very top players can pick there clubs, so go to utd or chelski.

prem league has become a farce 2 teams only can win it. every team in the championship could win the league or be relegated, at the beggining of this season leeds were tipped for promotion and colchester relegation yet look what happened, massive gates and no stupid money make it imho the best league to watch in europe.

You know more about the state of the game in england than i do, and i take your point that top players pick which club they play for ...... but I think from a business point of view toxin has the power and money to make MC one of the glamour teams ...... *thinks Coyote dancers in flashy new stadiums*

What i am saying is the big sponsors come in when their are lots of eyes on the club - and these days the English premier league is followed world wide - MC already have a few new million supporters in the north of thaialnd overnight ...... and with thasksin's wealth behind them, they could very well become the most popular team in the region.

Of course, the whole thing has nothing to do with politics though ..

i agree with what your saying just belive it to be an odd choice. but im sure the guy has done his sums before bidding anything so will know he can make a bob or two.
MC have alot of local competition in that area, i would say within a 75 mile radius theres liverpool, everton, man u, blackburn, wigan, bolton, villa?, and all the championship teams in the midlands and around manchester.
so as far as getting more support in and around that area i think they will struggle short term.
if big money is spent perhaps in time support will grow.
theres also the rumour that if you live in manchester you support city,
man u fans live anywhere but in manchester.
if thats the case man c have got a bloody big fan base waiting to be tapped.

well that makes it even less sense of a buy.
prem league on sky today have said they will not sanction the sale if money used to buy the club is dodgy.
    can the league do that??
or will they fine or deduct points something like that??

All this nonsense about Taksin buying Man City is just a smokescreen. His real target is Darlington FC.
See BBC report below. By keeping it quiet no doubt he will get it at a good price. They have a 25,000 all seater stadium as well. Not too bad for average gates of 3,000 or so

An ambitious plan to ensure the financial future of troubled Darlington Football Club has been unveiled.

if he doesnt take over city are gonna be in a right mess.
in the next 24hrs before he is due to take over and if you belive sky sports news, sven will be named as manager, marlon harewood and alan smith as strikers, nedum onuoha has just this min been signed and about ten other players aparently wanted or already signed.
without this money city will collapse.
in an interview earlier the FA said they have powers to investigate any deals invlolving players and clubs, so can investigate the sale of a club. they dont have any powers to stop it though just investigate and pass findings on too fifa. once again according to sky

    Tanks roll in to Eastlands

    CITY COUP

    Tanks roll in to Eastlands

The world of football was rocked this morning as Manchester City was invaded by the Thailand military following ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's take-over of the club.
    Thaksin spend

Mr Thaksin, who was previously linked with bids to take over Liverpool and Fulham, was the victim of a military coup in Thailand. Allegedly he flogged state owned land at knock down prices and applied tax breaks to his wife's business which tripled his family fortune. With a warrant out for his arrest the Thai Military Government have frozen his assets which now include Manchester City.

The military rolled up at the City Of Manchester Stadium and immediately held a press conference announcing themselves as new owners of the Premier League Club. An Army spokesman was quick to allay the fears of City supporters that the club lacked ambition.
    Ulrika-ka-ka!

"I can assure all City fans that the board are committed to taking the club to the next level," said new manager Colonel Sven Goran Eriksson. "The new multi-million pound TV deal for the Premier League will be used to sign new players. Honest. And maybe I could have a new secretary. Only if she's tasty mind. I don't want any munters working for me. A former weather girl perhaps. Or that one who worked at the FA. What was her name again?"

    Love you long time

The club have insisted that they were determined to succeed. They have already pledged to increase season ticket prices by 10%. "Price increases are only the beginning," says Colonel Eriksonn. "Soon I will be getting rid of our highest earning players. then we will be rolling in it. Not sure if we'll stay up mind."
Mr Thaksin, in the meantime, has declared that he will challenge the takeover. "Does anyone have Simon Jordon's phone number?" he asked. "I've got money. Oh wait, no I haven't."

    just been anounced on sky.
he now owns 56% of the club he now has 21 days to secure the 75% required to have total controll.
the club cant sign anyone at this time while its all still in limbo.
sven will be manager after agreeing in principle to take charge when the 75% is gained.

Many clubs in UK have spurious secrets. Roman is being financially investigated. Man U, were the richest club in the world. Now they are over 600 million pounds in dept. West Ham have money problems, as do Liverpool with there new owners.
Why Thickskin chose Man City, is because it's the best. Most honest. Most loved team in the land.
And it is true. If you live in Manchester you support city. If you live anywhere else,(except Wolverhampton), then you support Man U.
In fact the two best teams in Manchester are, Manchester City, and Manchester City reserves.

Guess who I support??????(don't say Darlington)

The Glazer's borrowed big to take over Man U. First of all, the fans did not want the takeover, but it was thrust upon them. Now they are winning things, things have gone quiet, but the debt is still there.
The Glazer's, have a bad rep in the USA, re their business dealings. Buying small , and selling big, no matter who it hurts.
The Man U fans are waiting for things to explode.
I am not picking on Man U, just because I hate them. This applies to, maybe 90% of teams in English football.
The sad thing is, that football, is not a sport anymore. It's a business.
To add to all this, it's a lot of player's who add to the problem, with their huge wage demands. I should imagine, that one week's salary of say, Ronaldino, would pay for the whole playing staff of, Darlington.(I'm not picking on Darlington). I am also not blaming the players. They are getting what they can , out of the pot.
You get people like Beckham who has just gone to Los Angeles. He has not kicked a ball yet, and LA have got there transfer money back, through shirt sales, and souveniers. Then there are agents, who cause lots of problems also,re commissions, bungs and the like. I could go on, and on, and on.
Manchester City could be debt free soon.???????????

^he he, the chances are that Thaksin will do the same to City as he has to Thailand.... he should be able to buy a decent club with the amount of money he'll steal off you lot.

I guess your a not a darlo fan?? so you will know that the guys in that team dont get paid massive money. its only the very top clubs that play the mega bucks. I read that wolves average wage last season was 3k p/m. that means yes there are a few big earners, 2 guys were on 15k+ p/m, but more than likely alot of guys who are earning just a normal wage around 1000 too 2000 per month. the lower down the leagues the less money there is so players arnt getting paid the vast amounts.
if your in a top team with the pressures and life intrusions that brings why shouldnt they get paid big.
these guys lives are played out for us on tv and papers everyday, familys, kids and wives all over the tele and paper.
also if your boss calls you in and says, ok were gonna give you a rise, would you say no thanks im paid enough???
i agree at the very top there are some big earners but further down its not so great.

NickA, how do you mean he'll steal off us. We have nothing to steal. He would be stealing from himself. Manchester City are about 60 million pounds in debt to start with. The only people who will steal from Man City, are , if we get so

me big name players, who will demand big salaries. We have started off on the wrong foot, by giving in to Sven Goran Ericsson. He's on 3 million pounds per year to start.
The person I would have liked as manager, is Sam Allardyce, but we just missed him. Now there's a man who can manage on a shoestring, and motivate his men, and command respect.
Anyway, give us one season, and sea how we do.

POST THIS SOMEWHERE SAFE, AND IN TWO YEARS, WHEN MANCHESTER CITY ARE AT THE TOP OF THE PREMIERSHIP, AND/OR THE WINNERS OF SOME SERIOUS SILVERWARE, AND ARE A STRIKING FORCE IN EUROPE, THEN BRING THIS OUT AGAIN, AND THEN I CAN SAY, "I TOLD YOU SO".

And please ,all you,"sky said this", and ,"sky said that" merchants, may have found a different ,reliable news outlet to listen to. Instead of Rupert Murdoch's properganda department.

My sympathy goes out Wolves, (aspecially, for the sad demise of Derek Dougan)
And to Darlington, One day, it will happen both your teams.

Thaksin is a crook. Leopards don't change their spots. Neither will Thaksin.

In the end he will embarrass the lot of you.
