| The UFC thread Boxing is dead. Mixed martial arts is taking over. I love this stuff, absolutely brutal combination of Muay Thai, juditsu, wrestlng and traditional boxing. The small gloves ensure that heavy hands count and the battles between the guys who like to grapple and the strikers is compelling. It's bloody difficult to pick a winner too. UFC 71 was full of surprises. Can't wait for the next one on June 18. The fastest growing sport in the world.

| Rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb | Quite funny at the start of UFC. You would get these guys dancing around doing the Karate Kid stuff and the wrestlers would charge, get them on the ground and thump hell out of 'em. If you can't wrestle you're fokked. Randy Couture won the heavyweight belt when he was in his forties and he is the finest wrestler that competes.

| UFC is now the big boy of the MMA field now but Pride FC was by far the best. The Japanese competition takes place in a boxing ring with slightly different rules such as knees/kicks to the head on the ground and a restart rule if the action gets too close to the ropes. Pride fights were far far better than the UFC.....if you wanna check out the action download the last open-weight tournament. Also got the greatest heavyfighter alive today in Fedor Emilianenko. Used to have the funniest and best informed commentators in "El Guapo" Bas Rutten and Steven Quadros. The UFC bought Pride recently so they are now bringing all the brazilian, yank and japanese fighters over. I suppose it had to happen this way for MMA to get a wider audience. Dan Henderson (ex-pride) is now gonna fight quinton "rampage" jackson (also ex-pride)for the light-heavyweight title.....gonna be a similar trend in the future i reckon with the ex-pride fighters coming over to kick some ass (besides cro-cop wanderlei silva vs. chuck lidell now seems to be a good match-up with the victor taking on either henderson/jackson. ![]()

| UFC didnt buy Pride, its just paying more and the Pride fighters are free agents to do what they want. Pride has always been the larger earner and paid alot more, the UFC is now stepping up and paying their fighters what they should be earning per fight. |

| Sources: PRIDE Acquisition Finalized Options: Thursday, May 24, 2007by Josh Gross (joshg[at]sherdog.com) On March 27, Station Casinos Vice Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta and UFC President Dana White announced in a Tokyo press conference that the sale of the PRIDE Fighting Championships to Zuffa had been agreed upon, and that the deal would be consummated on May 1. Yet three weeks after the consummation date, the deal was slow to close, as Zuffa attorneys did their due diligence on PRIDE assets. In a conference call with the media on Thursday,White denied that the deal had been closed. However, two sources tell Sherdog.com that the deal has in fact been finalized, and that former PRIDE CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara has said as much in the last 48 hours. Citing issues with several PRIDE fighter contracts, on Wednesday MMAWeekly.com reported that there is a class action lawsuit on behalf of PRIDE fighters looking to get out of their contracts. White, in a conversation with the media on Thursday afternoon, denied any knowledge of the dispute. Sources: PRIDE Acquisition Finalized |
