Vanessa Mae may ski for Thailand in Sochi Winter Olympics

Violinist Vanessa Mae is set to represent Thailand as a skier in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics next month.

    Wait, what?

Seriously, Mae, who has been competing as Vanessa Vanakorn using her father's surname, has qualified for the Olympics under a little known technicality that allows countries without big winter sports programs send one athlete to the games.

Mae, better known as a platinum-selling violin prodigy, has been an avid skier since her youth. She was born in Singapore to an English father of Thai descent and a Chinese mother.

She unofficially qualified this weekend in competitions in Slovenia, the BBC reported, but must still be approved by the governing board.

"I am taking a plunge. I am British, but realistically there is no way I could represent my own country, but because my natural father is Thai, they have accepted me," said Mae, when she announced that she was shooting for the Olympics.

While it makes me want to race right out to buy the album, that pic is photoshopped to fuck.
Just stuck her head on a (very young) body model.

    ^no, it's an old picture.

    She is very slim...

    But rather ugly...

    Maybe 'ugly' is harsh!

Not my cup of tea, but I'm far better looking (not to mention charismatic) than most of you, so I have more choices...
How do I post these pictures???

She's gonna compete in Giant Slalom. Two runs in this sport, only the 30 best of the first one can start in the 2nd. I looked up who else is going to make a fool of herself in this competition, and found Alessia Afi Dipol from Togo.

I could do the same, being too crap at many things to represent the UK for, I could go represent Thailand instead, they'd welcome me with open arms, like other luuk kreung mercenaries in the past.

Weren't they trying to force a Thai passport on Tiger Woods at some point a few years back?

    From Wikipedia:

    Early Life and education
Vanessa-Mae was born in Singapore to Vorapong Vanakorn, an English hotelier of Thai ancestry who lives in Singapore, and Pamela Soei Luang Tan, a Chinese lawyer and semi-professional concert pianist. After her parents separated, her mother married Graham Nicholson, a British attorney who adopted Vanessa-Mae, and the family moved to England when Vanessa-Mae was four years old. She grew up in London and holds British citizenship. She began playing piano at the age of three and violin at five.

At age eight, Vanessa-Mae began attending the Francis Holland School in London, and at eleven, after her concert debut in 1988, she enrolled at the Royal College of Music in London.

In 1996, Vanessa-Mae's birth father publicly criticised and disowned her, adding that "she looks like a soft-porn showgirl", after seeing pictures of his scantily clad daughter to promote her albums. Vanessa-Mae's mother and stepfather defended her, saying that her image is none of his business.

The only bad thing about a novice competing in the Olympics is the higher chance of dying or serious injury. On the positive side, she'll have another note on her resume and her kids and grandkids will be able to say their mom was an Olympian. I just hope Justin Bieber doesn't get any ideas.

Dunno why she'd bother. I bet she whored herself to whatever nation would give her a passport so she could represent them. I used to go camping when I was a kid twice a year but I don't get to represent any country in the World Camping championships do I?

I doubt she needs the cash anyway, she was a talented musician, a bit too keen to be noticed though, hence the stupid pictures.

Bit like Wendi Deng who was married to Rupert Murdoch, came from a peasant household in China and slept her way up. Now apparently she and Tony Blair had sex. Can't take the whore out of many woman can ya?

Yes, it's telling that she'd pretend to be Thai after what her father said. I guess she has law on her side. I think she's shameless and I feel sorry for her dad. I can't imagine how hard it is to disown your daughter, but he did the right thing. Chink pushy mother of course - what to do do when she has control? Thailand is full of chink pushy people - witness the ongoing attempt to take away democracy from the REAL laid-back Thai people!

She's got dual nationality and is entitled to it. Why shouldn't she ski for Thailand if Thailand wants her to do it?

The biggest challenge is pitching a tent on the pavement..how do these protestors manage it?

Anyway if you take a good look at Vanessa Mae you'll see that she isn't that attractive at all.

If she meets the criteria for entry, why shouldn't she represent Thailand. Good publicity for her and the country.
Pat is coming across as a jealous sourpuss.
The woman is attractive and talented which seems to upset a few members. Good for her.
