Who would be fool enough to take over a Cardiff City?

Malky Mackay sacked: Cardiff City confirm the Scot has been dismissed following the 3-0 defeat to Southampton - Premier League - Football - The Independent

Cardiff City have confirmed that manager Malky Mackay has been “relieved of his duties” following the 3-0 defeat to Southampton on Boxing Day.

Mackay’s future had been in serious doubt following the ultimatum he was issued by club owner Vincent Tan ordering him to ‘resign or face being sacked’, and it was a surprise to see the Scot walk out still in charge of the Bluebirds when Saints visited the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday.
The statement read: “The Board of Directors at Cardiff City Football Club have today relieved Malky Mackay of his duties.
“A new first team manager will be appointed and announced in due course.”
Tan has since confirmed the reasons why he felt it necessary to dismiss the man who took the club to the top flight for the first time in their history, claiming that Mackay had aired "far too much dirty linen" in the public eye in recent weeks.
"There has been a good deal of publicity generated by, and about, Mr Malky Mackay for the last few months," a statement released to Sky Sports News read.
"Indeed, far too much dirty linen has been exposed to the public gaze but, I stress, not by me.
"Indeed, I have deliberately not responded to this, hoping that the club can be judged on its football rather than personalised arguments about who said what to whom.
"I have, however, regretfully concluded that it is no longer fair to the club, its players, its fans and the public more generally for this uncomfortable state of affairs to continue.
"Cardiff City Football Club means far too much to us all for it to be distracted by this."
The relationship between Tan and Mackay had significantly deteriorated before the latter's sacking Mackay leaves Cardiff sitting a point above the relegation zone in 16 position in the Premier League table, having guided them to promotion last season through winning the Championship.
However, following a satisfactory start to the season, the club found itself centre of attention when the head of recruitment Iain Moody was sacked in favour of 23-year-old Alisher Apsalyamov, who was later revealed to be on work experience with the club as a friend of Tan’s son. Apsalyamov has since been stood down over issues with his visa.
Mackay received backing from Tan following Moody’s departure, but when the 41-year-old admitted he would like to bring in three new players in January, Tan appeared to lose his patience with the manager and issued him with the ultimatum, identifying a poor run of results, his unhappiness with their playing style and his “extreme upset” with Mackay and Moody’s overspending in the summer in which they were said to have gone over the £35m budget by £15m.
Fans were already deeply unhappy with the axe floating precariously over Mackay’s head, and they showed their support for the Scotsman before, during and after last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool by chanting his name from the stands.
They followed that up with a 200-strong protest against Tan ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Saints, but conceding three goals for the second time in five days proved to be Mackay’s last act in charge.
Talks were due to take place on Saturday ahead of the match against basement club Sunderland between Tan, Mackay and chairman Mehmet Dalman – who had been accredited last week with saving Mackay when his job was first put on the line.
But he has failed to make those showdown talks, with Tan choosing that a new approach is needed if the club are to survive their first campaign in the Premier League.
The League Managers Association issued a statement on Friday evening on behalf of Mackay which expressed his sadness at his dismissal.
It read: “It is with the deepest and most sincere regret that I today confirm my sacking as Manager of Cardiff City FC. As disappointing as today’s decision is, I am already able to look back at my time at Cardiff City FC with immense pride and joy given the number of milestones the Club achieved during the last two-and-a-half years. A League Cup Final appearance followed by promotion to The Barclays Premier League for the very first time, achieved as winners of The Championship, allowed the club a move back to this elite level after a 51 year absence.
“I have enjoyed my time immensely at this fine club, in this great city, and throughout I’ve always attempted to put my own personal stamp on specific areas that I believe to be all-important, such as the implementation of a progressive culture as well a complete professional approach to all aspects of day-to-day management, that are required if you are to become a top club - and more importantly to remain as one.
“I would like to thank my players, all of my direct footballing staff, all the people behind the scenes at the club and most importantly the people of Cardiff, who have stood behind me resolutely throughout my time here and especially in these recent turbulent months. I leave with my head held high having gained a level of experience that, upon reflection, I suspect would have been difficult to find anywhere else in British football. The foundations laid at Cardiff City FC will provide a solid platform for my successor, and for the sake of the club, I hope that all of the progress that has been made so far will not be impaired in any way by today’s enforced changes.”
Former Manchester United striker and current Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is currently the bookmakers favourite, with Sven-Goran Eriksson, Yilmaz Vural and Murat Yakin also linked with a move to Wales.
Assistant manager David Kerslake and first-team coach Joe McBride will take charge of this weekend's tie with Sunderland, meaning a new manager is unlikely to be appointed until next week.

Solksjaer seems much too smart to get involved with a loon like Tan. He has been linked with every other EPL vacancy this year
seems detrmined to complete his apprenticeship at Molde.

Eriksson would enjoy a few months in the spotlight, then take the redundancy money and run off to the ME or back to China.

Bellamy has already declined the offer of interim manager and who can blame him?

Is anyone stupid enough to take on this crap job?

Solksjaer has already turned down jobs with better prospects and no nutter holding the purse strings. I think Tan should take the job.

whoever comes in will be backed financially

tan didn't trust mackay with any more after some very strange transfer dealings this summer

he might be an odious little cockwomble but he's certainly given the manager enough cash to build a decent squad

cardiff were the 7th highest spenders in the summer
unfortunately half the outlay has been festering in the reserves

but noon... up until a couple of weeks ago that team was quite a bit above the relegation zone

    surely that was the plan?

only an idiot could have been expecting more

I haven't seen Cardiff play much.... they were awful against liverpool in the first half, but the 2nd half I thought they did really well

Fair enough if you think you need a new manager and a different style of play..... it's just that you would have to be deluded to think that Cardiff haven't done very well so far and much better than anyone should have expected

Having completed an audit of the transfer dealing they found no impropriety.

Solution = sack the manager. Seems to me this super smart wealthy Asian Business man does not understand how a football club works. The football club board signed off on the expenditure, and if they also agreed the fees, wages and clauses in players contracts, then they are culpable.

The original question remains, who would be dumb enough to take over as manager and work for him?

this is one of the best posts on the subject that i have seen

ironically it comes from a forum full of returds best known for its incredible levels of illiteracy

a genuine challenge to all the so called 'fans leaders'

Postby Die Walkure » Fri Dec 27, 2013 10:06 pm
I used to be a regular poster on this forum until May this year, but haven’t posted since then for the reasons set out below.

However, I felt that given what I consider to be the totally inappropriate actions of the bandwagon jumpers (I won’t name them, as it will be obvious to anyone who follows CCFC who they are) over the last few days, I felt it my duty to at least post my views on what’s happened over the last 7 days, as I feel so strongly about them.

The hatred for VT has simply been staggering (especially at Anfield) – all he has wanted to do (in my view) is get rid of a manager that he thinks is clearly not up to premier league standards (we may argue about that, but many will share that view, and I have been strongly of that view for a long time) – in any event, these are the arguments that at the very least seem to be sensible ones to hold, even if one disagrees with them (and surely even a fair minded MM supporter would see that they are valid points to raise, even if they wanted to give MM the benefit of the doubt) :

    1. Very poor quality football (hoof-ball constantly).
    2. Many players bought for far too much money (and many not even (or hardly) used), despite multi-million transfer fees (paid for remember by VT, Not MM).
    3. The team hovering just above the relegation zone and clearly in danger of possible relegation.
    4. A manager that despite all the money that VT had (and was going to) give him was not prepared to rule himself out of the Everton job on national TV when he could clearly have done so. (Some may feel this is fair enough by MM, but equally, isn’t it fair enough for VT to then feel, he’s not the man for me?)

I know there are counter arguments as well (I don’t accept them, as I always thought MM would take us down, but I accept some intelligent fans have supported MM), (Don’t forget as well, that all the dirty linen that’s been aired in public over the last few weeks has not come from VT – it doesn’t take a genius to work out whose likely to have been conniving behind the scenes to get the media to sing to a certain tune.)

My main point however is this : given the above arguments, why the intense hostility towards VT over the last 7 days???? The obvious answer is that the hatred has nothing really to do with the MM issue, but is all down to the rebrand – and the people who like to think that they are the important fans have suddenly jumped on this bandwagon to use this as a means of targeting hate at VT for other reasons than just innocent support of MM – Expediency at its absolute worst!

To me, that is rank hypocrisy and the people who have done so should hang their heads in shame – Even though I disagree 100% with the likes of TLG, I have the utmost respect for his position, as he had the courage of his convictions and walked away. I also have respect for those people (even though I again completely disagree with them) who have tried to oppose the rebrand from day one (even if they have continued attending games), and have maintained a consistent position.

This current fiasco though has quite frankly been sickening – if the extent of the outpouring of abuse over the last week is really about the rebrand, then have the courage of your convictions and make the argument for that – but don’t just use this MM situation (or the next convenient issue) as a cloak to vent your spleen about something else – fight on the ground you really feel strongly about, rather than stirring the pot on another issue, as you know the vast majority of fans will not protest about the rebrand!

It’s hardly surprising that the following groups hate VT :

    1. The Welsh media (their beloved ‘egg’ is under intense pressure with City’s success, and the last thing they want is a long period of football success for Cardiff under a billionaire owner).
    2. The English media (they hate the fact that there are 2 Welsh teams in the premier league).
    3. The English football pundits (for the same reasons set out in no.2 above).

Under normal circumstances, there would be enough people around CCFC who would see through all of this, but given the rhetoric coming from the so called ‘fan’s leaders’ and the younger childish element who have not been through the dark days of bottom division football like many of us thinking it’s somehow ‘cool’ to have a pop at VT (probably because it seems like a fun thing to do), everyone seems to have been blind over the last couple of weeks.

I know I’m probably at odds with most long standing fans about not worrying about the changes (symbols and colours have never meant much to me - not just in football, but in any part of life – I don’t see symbols as affecting substance), but I can see that many honourable people do feel strongly about the issue and I respect that, but please do any campaign against VT for clear and honest reasons - not hypocritical ones!

My challenge to the leaders of this forum and any other wannabe ‘fans leaders’ is : campaign and protest on honest ground, not hypocritical ground – and don’t use the next issue that has nothing at all to do with the rebrand to again try and fan the flames against VT – have the courage to campaign on honest ground! - and if you truly are democratic, then if the vast majority will not go out and protest about the rebrand (that’s my assessment of the majority of our fan base, but if I’m wrong on that, I will bow to the majority view as I ask you to do), accept that and if you don’t want to do a TLG by all means stay, but accept that the tide of opinion is against you at this stage and maintain your opinions with dignity and honesty – that has been sadly lacking over the last few days. By all means remain vocal about how important the colours and badge are to you, but don’t use dishonest issues to use for that fight, which is what I think is what’s been done over this issue with MM!

I have always tried to respect all the different views of our fans and when I used to post, always did so by arguing against the pro change posters who used to try to wind up the pro blues - and I trust anyone reading this post will take it in the spirit it’s meant – a challenge to honesty in any protests, as all I want is the best for CCFC (as I’m sure all true fans would want).

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

(The reason for my leaving the forum was that I did a post in May outlining that I thought those who celebrated our promotion like crazy whilst singing anti VT songs were complete hypocrites (as it was his money that was far and away the main reason for the promotion) – a view I still hold to as strongly as I ever did. However, Polo(whose views I’ve respected) made a good argument that maybe I was also being hypocritical in posting on an anti VT forum when I was totally behind his vision for the club.

I initially argued against that (using the argument that the top of the page said that “all fans were welcome”), but in truth I ultimately accepted his logic and have not posted from that day to this about CCFC on this forum as I felt I would become a hypocrite to continue to do so (even though I’d posted for a long time before the rebrand, and the only thing that I want is the good of CCFC).

I hate the thought of being a hypocrite myself and just wish others would take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror and act honourably from this point on! If it really is the rebrand that is behind all this outpouring of hate over the last week, then come clean and don’t pretend it’s because of the MM issue – have the courage of your convictions and fight on the issue that really matters to you, not a side issue!

I shan’t post regularly again, as I know my views are not welcome on this forum.

Phil Brown is the man for this job.

I mean, look at the colour of the man.

He is one of the few who is obviously used to working with a dodgy Tan.
