Jakarta Bintangs Celebrate Successful Season

The Jakarta Bintangs celebrated the end of a good season with an internal award ceremony this weekend.

The Jakarta football club honored player Adam Bray with the BJ Morgan trophy, which recognizes skill and fair play. Bray and Matthew Jolly shared the Ludwig/Thomson Award, which honors the players who score the most goals in a season.

Coach Timothy Simpson was awarded the Coaches Award, and several other players were also recognized.

Special guests included seven members of the national team who had toured overseas with the Bintangs.

This year saw the team become champions at the Bali Masters Tournament and go undefeated in the premiers of the East Asian Australian Football League under Coach Brenton Harris, also winning first-ever victories in Vietnam and in Singapore over tough competition.

Harris has since stepped down from the role of coach and the position is now filled by Bray.

In a major step up, the club has been nominated as Indonesia’s first ever national team to compete in the AFL International Cup, to be held in Melbourne in August 2014.

The cup is held once every three years and runs for two weeks, with over 20 countries represented.
