On Saturday, Jeff Horn will put his WBO welterweight title on the line against unbeaten former two-division world champion Terence Crawford at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada (ESPN+, 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT).
Horn, who is ranked No. 5 by THE RING at 147 pounds, arrived in America on May 30. The unbeaten Australian is looking forward to the opportunity to prove himself against one of the best fighters in the world in the boxing capital.
“I am excited,” Horn (18-0-1, 12 knockouts) told THE RING. “I always pictured myself fighting in Vegas eventually. It just shows some dreams can come true. The next part of that dream is winning.”
The 30-year-old former schoolteacher is acutely aware of Crawford’s abilities but remains unfazed and confident of pulling off the upset against the 1/9 (-800) odds-on favorite.
“Crawford is a very slick and skillful boxer,” he said. “He has many skills which allow him to adapt and switch styles to work against his opponent. I feel I have the style that will upset anyone in a fight, no matter what they plan for.
“It is critical to my career to hold onto my belt. To win this fight against America’s best on their soil will be a massive leap forward for my career and legacy I would like to leave

Horn although as defending champ is a prohibitive underdog here. Crawford is in anyone's top #3 rating at any weight currently, even going up in weight to 147lbs.

Horn is very strong, and hopefully will try use his strength to maul and push Crawford around. Horn also supposedly has a granite chin, and he's going to need it. He is actually a good bet at odds of 24/5 against.

^If his mind is 100%. Biggest hurdle and opponent is himself. I hope he is mentally focused on the remainder of his boxing career. He is a very talented, charismatic guy and also entertaining.
The Heavyweight Div doesn't really need him per se, but is better for him being in it. Hope he takes advantage of the second chance he is being offered here.

He says he's around 19 stone, losing 8 stone in the last few months on a ketosis diet.

His best weight is around 17st 8lb, (250lb) he was 17st 6lb (247) against Klitschko but his weight has never been consistent.

His last 7 fights, check the weight fluctuations, as high as 274, lowest 245. It doesn't affect his hand speed

Let's not forget he's been down twice in his career, but with heavyweights that's not really unusual. Steve Cunningham catches him with a peach of a punch in 2012

^There are actually a few other meaningful boxing matches also this weekend. Bit of a clash of schedules, tbh.

Aforementioned; Crawford v Horn for Horn's version of the Welterweight 147lb title.

Also; UK's Terry Flanagan v Maurice Hooker for Flanagan's WBO 140lb title.

Jermell Charlo v Austin Trout for the Light Middle (154lbs) .

All potentially good fights and matchups, but the real barn-burner is this:-

Highly anticipated rematch of all-action Mexicans fighters; Leo Santa Cruz v Abner Mares. The top guys (Santa Cruz #1) at Featherweight meet again for Cruz's title. First fight was a war, but both fighters are probably even better this time around than when they last fought 2 years ago.

Rundown on the fights from BLH's front page: https://www.badlefthook.com/

Boxnation and HBO Fight sports have these matches on their live programs.

Great weekend of boxing, if you don't have these^ channels; someone might be kind enough to post a few linkies, please?

The big fights usually appear on piratebay an hour or so afterwards, often the whole evenings show. But get them quick before the seeders/leeches come and go.

I predicted the same outcome but a couple of rounds later.

He can only deal with what's put in front of him.

I heard there were about 8 fights in the crowd, and a lot of jeering and missiles aimed at the ring towards the end.

^Yep. Crawford superior in every department and able to push Horn about, which was a surprise. Merciful stoppage in the 9th by the ref. Horn was getting a real pasting, tbh.

Crawford just seems to get better and better. Welterweight division on notice.

American Deontay Wilder has agreed terms to fight Anthony Joshua in Britain later this year in a bout that would crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 2000, ESPN reported on Monday.

Briton Joshua (21-0) is the holder of the IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO titles while Wilder (40-0) is the WBC world champion.

Wilder's co-manager Shelly Finkel told ESPN they had agreed to the latest terms offered by Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn.

'We have agreed to the terms that Eddie has put out to us for a fight in the U.K. Deontay has accepted his terms to fight in the U.K.,' Finkel said.

Joshua too stiff and robotic to get out the way of Wilders shots which come from strange angles.

And Joshua doesn't have the handspeed to counter Deontays attacks.

    Hopefully l'm wrong

    Well that's a given.

As for Joshua, on a line of form through Eric Molina, Joshua should beat Wilder easily.

It took Wilder 9 rounds to put Molina down, Joshua knocked him out in 3.

At the moment yes he would beat him. Even my wheelchair bound granny would, and she died in 1996.

At least the next 3yrs will be great in the heavyweight division.

The Klitchsko years were boring, and both were big punchers, but you'd never think so.

Great news that these matches are getting made. Apparently a 2-fight rematch clause in this contract:

    From Wilder co-manager Shelly Finkel:
“We have agreed to the terms that Eddie has put out to us for a fight in the U.K.. Deontay has accepted his terms to fight in the U.K. Deontay sent an email to Joshua (Sunday) night and I sent one today to Barry Hearn and Eddie telling them that we officially accept the offer to fight under the terms they gave us and to send us the contract.”
The deal is reportedly for two fights, with a rematch that would take place in the United States.

Probably will be a lot of updates with this story. Let's see how serious Wilder's team are for this chance at all the marbles.

Pretty sure that they are dead serious as they are going to the UK first. I will be looking forward to this unification. Not sure how I feel about the rematch though.

^I think so, too. I would imagine Wilder seeing the Wembley and Cardiff Arenas packed out and sold out for Joshua's last 2 fights, and thinking "I want some of this".

Be prepared for a lot of dicking around with contracts, clauses, on-off negotiations first though.

Former Joshua victim Dillian Whyte fights Joseph Parker on July 28th. I would imagine the winner would face the likes of Daniel Dubois or Povetkin.

Whyte has vastly improved since an 8th round stoppage loss to AJ.

Parker of course lost on points in AJs last fight.

Maybe a bit of a tall order for Whyte as Parker can punch but a potential explosive fight.

China chinned scouser David Price touted as next opponent for Fury. I bloody hope not. He's been knocked out cold too often in a disappointing career.

This Sunday (morning 8am) in Kuala Lumpur:
    World wide boxing news-mannyvmatyse-jpg

ESPN+, 9:00 pm ET, Manny Pacquiao vs Lucas Matthysse, Jhack Tepora vs Edivaldo Ortega. Pacquiao and Matthysse meet for Matthysse’s WBA “world” welterweight title, in a matchup of faded veterans who still might have something left. Matthysse didn’t look great last time out, but still won a knockout. Pacquiao didn’t look great last time out, but most people still thought he should have gotten the W against Jeff Horn. It’ll be interesting to see where Manny’s at right now. No Freddie Roach, no proper Top Rank involvement other than sorting U.S. TV, and fighting in Kuala Lumpur. Tepora-Ortega is for an interim WBA featherweight belt. .
    https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/box...mises-a-blast/

Another couple of 'faded veterans' (me and a sparring partner) will be there to watch the fight. Not quite at ringside, but probably visible on tv cameras. Hopefully, phones are allowed and I can get some pics of the fight and environs. First big boxing match in Malaysia since Ali fought Joe Bugner in 1975, apparently. Looking forward to this, and fancy Matthysse to stop Pacman, ending his amazing career. Let's see.
