James Alexander Gordon, the man who has been announcing the football results for the BBC every Saturday at 5pm for the past 40 years has hung up his microphone due to a recent operation for throat cancer.
Popularly known as 'Jag', he used his intonation, when pronouncing the names of the clubs, to indicate whether a match had ended in a home win, away win or draw

Charlotte Green to make BBC football results debut
Focus predictions: Charlotte Green
Charlotte Green will make her debut as the new voice of the classified football results on BBC radio later.
The former Radio 4 newsreader replaces James Alexander Gordon who has retired after more than 40 years in the job.
Green, who is a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, will read the final scores on Saturday on BBC Radio 5 live and World Service.
She said being given the post of reading the football scores was a lifetime's ambition come true.
"It came completely out of the blue and I was absolutely delighted," she said.
"In fact, I remember saying 'you're pushing at an open door'. It's something I'd always dreamed about as a child, and when I was six I used to sit at the kitchen table and read them out loud to the annoyance of my sister."
'Love to do'
She described it as a "huge honour" to take over from Gordon.
Richard Burgess, the head of BBC Radio Sport, has described Green as a "broadcaster of true calibre".
To mark her debut, Green will appear on BBC One's Football Focus on Saturday at 12:00 BST giving her predictions for the weekend's Premier League matches.
Green, who is the Broadcasting Press Guild's Radio Broadcaster of the Year, was a newsreader and continuity announcer on Radio 4 for 34 years.
When she left Radio 4 earlier this year, she said in a Newsnight interview: "I have always wanted to read out the football results. That is something I would love to do."
Gordon left the role after surgery for cancer meant his voice was no longer strong enough for broadcasting.
