Yacht race from Australia to Indonesia sets sail

A large crowd of land and sea based spectators including the Indonesian Ambassador have cheered on more than 80 yachts which are taking part in the annual rally Sail Indonesia, now in its thirteenth year.

The blue sky and calm conditions have been welcomed by participants who hail from Australia, the Pacific, the Americas, the Carribean and Europe.

Kupang in East Timor is the first stop for the yachts and from there they'll spend the next three months island hopping across Indonesia.

They're expected to reach their final stop at Bintan by the end of October.
