    Tour de France anniversary edition

Tour the France #100 begins tomorrow, and Eurosport will cover the whole 1th stage starting at 16:45 Bangkok time until 22:30. Nice course this year with many places never visited before, the first three days will be spent on the island of Corsica. The stages 2 and 3 are already seriously lumpy, the Tour arrives in the Pyrenees on the 06.07 for 2 stages, and on the 14.07 in the Alps for six stages. It never features the atrocities of the Giro and Vuelta with climbs of 25%+, but they're long. Stage 18 on 18.07 features the famous ascent to Alp d' Huez twice.

The favourites are the same line-up as in the amazing Vuelta last year, Contador, Froome, Rodriguez, and Valverde. While Contador has won every Grand Tour he entered since 2007 but one, he looked vulnerable in the races earlier this year, and it could be the Briton's Froome's first victory.

Eurosport covers every stage, most of them from start to finish. Here's a website with pleny of information and links to live streaming if you don't have Eurosport.

On a much smaller scale, a promo event weekend before last

    my concern is this line

watch the Tour de France live with a Thai commentary
    what??

Hundreds of cyclists took part last Saturday in an event to mark the centenary of the Tour de France, the world's best known multiple stage bicycle race.

The "Road to Tour de France (Thailand)", which covered the route from Srinakharinwirot University Ongkarak Campus in Rangsit to Khun Dan Prakan Chon dam in Nakhon Nayok, was organised by GMM Z in collaboration with Eurosport, the pan-European television sport network operated by French broadcaster TF1 Group.

The event aimed to advertise and support the live telecast of the 2013 Tour de France, which will run from June 29 to July 21 with live coverage from Eurosport 393.

"Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in Thailand," says Eurosport channel director Daniel Blessing. "It's now considered the trendiest sport yet very few Thais are able to name the world's top cyclists. This is very different in Europe, where these cyclists are considered superstars. Thais mainly ride for the health or as a lifestyle choice, so my aim is to enhance interest and encourage them to watch the
Tour de France live with a Thai commentary."

Watching cycling Is Ok I watch occasionally if there is nothing else, for the scenery and the chase bikes. The commentators know the sport and know what they are talking about it but in Thai will be like watching Sumo with Hungarian commentary.

good timing for us, evenings, and agree on the commentators, one last year (? Irish, unsure) was a former competitor and knew his stuff. When it gets dull there's always the scenery, I wasn't aware they changed the course so much so we'll see some new mountains this time around.

The thought of watching it with all Thai commentary isn't so appealing, they have two options either their own commentators making things up as they go, or their own commentators trying to listen/translate from the English Eurosport commentary team. I'm hoping it's neither and that we'll still get the real commentary team (hope!)

Don't know enough about the riders/teams to pick a winner, just sit back and see what eventuates. Saw a TV show picking Froome/Contador but there must be plenty of others in with a chance.

totally agree with the commentary, sometimes can be the highlight of the program if the race is going through a flat stage. lots of info of the regions there going through with regards to culture, history and cuisine and sean kelly ( the irish guy) many tour wins to his name, and david harmen are informative, witty and know the sport inside out..really looking forward to it yet again

He should win and he deserves to after essentially escorting Wiggins over the Alps and Pyrenees last year. He's got the added bonus of help from Porte, so it'll probably be another Sky one-two.

Cavendish will probably end the first stage in yellow, so it'll be another good Tour for the English...

Re commentary - you just can't be Phil!

^^ thanks for that name - Sean Kelly it will be (looked him up, what a history/record he has), very knowledgeable and as you mentioned, good at filling in the gaps with a history/geography lesson. The filming is stunning at times, esp the aerial work they do over the mountains, must be a massive logistics exercise getting all that organised.

I certainly hope it'll be Harmon and Kelly, otherwise it's a disaster. Harmon did this year only the classics. The Giro was covered by Quigley and Kelly, and it was poor. In the Dauphine there were Kirby and Kelly, a catastrophe. While Harmon and Kelly pass the ball to each other, ask each other questions, have funny conversations, Kirby annoyed with endless inane monologues, and Kelly almost never said a word. And the worst of the bunch is Rob Hatch, I hope they dispatch this one to the Tour of Poland that also begins soon.

^cheers, VIP Box I'd be lost without it. And the link in 1stv post steephill.tv has so much info.
The Corsica start will be a change of scenery - saw a flyover video last night, looks tough (not for them would be the death of me!)
On the commentary - one of our TV sports channels is GMM Sportone - don't watch it often as has eg dubbed US 'wrestling', dubbed World's Strongest Man, dubbed US boxing - but see they are advertising TdF in conjunction with Eurosport so maybe I'll have two viewing/language options after all.

Fortunate enough to have it live on ITV 4 now..

I'm actually going to the first time trial at Le Mont St. Michel - and I WILL be on the fucking highlights that evening, or the news, or both..

I'll strategically position myself at the top of the steepest ascent and see what I can, you know, muster up.

But I'll probably just clap like a little girl.

Videos coming up quickly now. Did they really want to finish at 3k with that bend behind? That's a death trap.

i hope heads truly roll for that farce, stupidest thing since that copper stepped out and knocked jalabert off in the 90s. no chance for my boys at the Moviestar team for overall victory but some stage victories are definitely on the cards and quintana could be top 5. would be nice if froome's missus and official pr could shut up for most of the proceedings..

Nice little stage today. Chris Froome showed he's got a set of bollocks towards the end.
