    England to beat New Zealand

Do any of our sheepshagging chums think they may not?

After what everyone *thought* was a poor start, they are firmly in control.

Trott and Root are cruising along. I think Englands next batsmen should be Tort, Rott and Toot.

They didn't follow my advice, Prior's gone for a King pair, 171/5, lead by 196.

Collapsing like a clown's car they are.

Finished the day 205 in front on 180/6.

I think every kiwi bar the bowler was around Finn for the last delivery.

Cruising at 159-2 to finish in typically panicky style. Lucky we have a plethora of great bowlers atm. 250 ahead should be enough on this wicket.

Announcing Prior as the cricketer of the year seems to have gone to his head and not his bat.

England all out for 213 and lead by 238 runs.

NZ are 29 for 6 at lunch and praying for a hurrican to arrive.

Broad takes 5 wickets in 6 overs. The lowest score at Lords is 42, quite a way to go yet.

10 wickets go in the opening session today.

Daniel Vettori could play in the second Test against England after joining the New Zealand squad earlier than planned.
The left-arm spinner was originally named in the Kiwis' squad for the one-day series and Champions Trophy.
But the 34-year-old may replace Bruce Martin, who will return home with a calf injury suffered in the first Test defeat at Lord's.

Another odd day at the crease for England, 172/4 at tea, so I'm expecting the imminent collapse any time soon.

Geoff Boycott puffing his chest out somewhat with 2 Yorkshiremen putting England in the driving seat at Headingley.

    NZ to follow on

    Weather
It is another warm one in Leeds and the prospects of a second straight full day's play are looking good. The opening day was a complete washout but since then the weather has been perfect.

Didn't take long for NZ to skittle the tail. England 354 a.o.

    New Zealand batting, 23/0.

Batting practice and a chance for Compton to show his Ashes pedigree (at which he failed dismally).
