    Fishing Anyone?????

I am the new guy in town here, but planning on moving to Thailand soon. I am the consummate angler; was a light tackle guide in the Florida Keys for 14 years and I have fished a lot of places the world over, including Russia, Cuba, Costa Rica and the Bahamas.

Just wondering if anyone here was into this as well. I have done just about everything, in terms of technique, even throwing spears and ice fishing. Fly rods in salt water was my forte, but might be getting a little too old for that now. It would be a miracle if my lady took to catching anything more than a catfish or tilapia from the pond, so a new fishing/drinking partner would be a big bonus in Thailand!

You will find that we have a fish thread, with the cunningly deceptive title of "The Fish Thread".

I have little time for anything but work food and sleep these days but you will find several anglers on the thread and a chance to post some pictures of your catch.
I see fish. They are everywhere. They don't know they are fish.

After spending my youth trout fishing in the rivers and lakes in my native country and then progressing to ocean fishing in the pristine waters of coastal NZ and Australia I thought my fishing days were over when I decided to locate to Issarn.

My partner in crime (and life) had other ideas, when she discovered my stash of rods and reels from my good old days. Now her and our 2 daughters are the best equipped anglers in issarn
There can’t be good living where there is not good drinking

Thanks for the info on the thread...I'll take a look. Peter, NZ and Australia are the 2 places left on this earth, where I want to go fishing. Barras in Aussieland, both fresh water and salt; then maybe some reef fishing for some big cod. Then off to NZ for some of that world class trout fishing! Then I can die. There are barramundi in Thailand! My aim is to scout out the likely areas...there's one fairly close to BKK, a river with barramundi in it. Then I have heard that on the west coast, there are barras there as well. I already know that there are a lot of pay-to-fish ponds, scattered all around the country. Sorry, but they do not interest me.

I've had some fun in them. They bite a lot more frequent there and give you a fight, unlike the tiddlers I used to pick up in Cha Am's murky salt waters and their hundreds of fishing nets. Although it was still a lovely way to relax

I'm gonna go deep sea fishing down in the Mallaca Straits/Andaman soon.
    I will report back

Yes, barramundi are called Asian seabass over here, or pla kapong.
