    Thailand Softball

My daughter has begun practicing with the Thailand National Softball team. These girls play U19 fast pitch underhand softball. The past few years this team has not been great but hopefully later this year in Singapore they will shine.

Damn proud to say the least.

You are lucky, mine can play sports with softball probably the best but going to Thai schools sort of took the sport out of them. Best of luck with the softball. I lived for sport they seem to love for high tech devices. But when you bring home all A's and A*'s you really cant complain.

Wow, impressive HillBilly. I know you are proud of her... as you should be. Wish her well in playing with the team.

Softball was always a favorite past time of mine. While working in South Korea back in 1972 - 1975, I play on the US Eighth Army's premier Fast Pitch Softball team. Got to travel and play in Japan and Guam as well. Good times.

Also, when I was a youngster, dad took me to the local event where Ed Fainer and the "The King and his court" played. "The king and his court was a 5 man soft ball team (pitcher, catcher, 1st base, 1 infielder and 1 outfielder) that was just an alround great team but had the pitcher who was just fantastic. Struck guys out blindfolded pitching from 2nd base.

I have seen "the king and his court as well". Alberts Park, San Rafael, and after the game they stayed around to sign autographs. What a night.

I played in leagues for years in the US and Japan- it's one of the things I miss most living in LOS (I don't live near where it's played- there are active leagues in BKK and Pattaya).

Fast pitch softball is pretty tough- some of those girls can really bring it- good for your kid- it's a fun sport.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

As I looked on the home page of the King and his Court, it was only a 4 man team and Eddie Feigner was the original pitcher and team lead. What a great exhibition they put on.

Try viewing this web site and Hillbilly, your daughter may even be inspired by this video... The Official Site of - The King & His Court: Original 4-Man Softball Team

    Here is the latest update.

Once again the communication barrier has broken down. My daughter is practicing with the Junior Thailand Softball League not the big girls.

This weekend we find out if she has been accepted or not. My daughter asked me to wait until Saturday to see how she plays.

The coach told my wife, no problem...

My daughter is now confirmed to be on the Bangkok softball team. This team plays here in Bangkok and also travels to other provinces to play their team.

We will know later this week if she actually made the Thailand Junior Softball team.

I have to say that today while watching the girls tryout for the Junior Softball team, I was impressed. Many girls from Chiang Mai, Chaipum and other assorted provinces were giving it their best. These girls are as good as any college teams I have seen from the states playing softball. Well, maybe not that good but still damned impressive!

The coach continues to whittle the team down. Later this week he says it will be at 20-25 (depending upon talent). These softball girls will then practice until December when the final team will be known.

The girls that actually make the team from other provinces will then live in Bangkok and attend school; which the International Softball Association of Thailand pays for. This is a big deal for the majority of the upcountry girls.

Of course my daughter will continue her education in an international school and not a Thai one.

At the end of the day we still have to wait and see if my 'look sow' (daughter) actually makes the team.

BTW, I met the coach and pitcher for the Thailand Baseball team today. The pitcher is a BIG boy who throws his fastball at 135 KPH.

The coach who spoke reasonable English talked about the difficulties he had training players who had not grown up with the game of baseball.

The pitcher was a delight. His English was ok and his outlook on life was great.

Thailand maybe behind other countries with many sports, but at least with softball and baseball they are giving it their best.

Recently the coach brought in the Thailand National Team to practice with the Junior Thailand National Team.

Yes, there was a difference but not by much, depending upon the position being played.

It was nerve wracking to watch the coach bring in my daughter to pitch instead of playing right field (initially my daughter said that is the positon that she wanted to play as the infield was crazy/good).

Apparently, my daughter has a talent for pitching. We will wait and see what pans out.

I have to add that these girls are good. Even on a best day with the best TD team, we would get lost in the dust...

The wife and daughter did not arrive home until 8:30 pm last night.

My daughter who is a A student is worried. Will have to wait and see.

That's because it would be you, me, and a bunch of Limeys who wouldn't know which end of the bat to hold, and who'd spend most of the time whining about how it's a girls' game while they struggled to get any wood on the ball.
