Kind of don't think it is accidental if the police thought there was enough evidence to arrest him, and the entire mistaking for intruder is kind of hard to justify when he shot her in the arm first, which would make me go "hey dear, you can stop shooting it's me."

Double tap. If you are going to shoot someone you don't pull the trigger once then check out how it went.
Double tap maybe. However I was taught that the shots should be fired center mass. What you are aiming for is the triangle between the chin and the nipples. The reason is that center mass is the largest area and biggest size target. You are aiming for the triangle as Any shot there is a kill shot. If you miss the triangle then you will still hit the target in the body. A head shot is specifically not what your taught to shoot in an emergency shooting situation cuz it is a small, hard to hit target. A head shot is for things like the mozambique drill- two shots to the chest and one in the head.

here Arm AND head shot. Seems unlikely if you think it's an intruder. Like both shots on a double tap are into center mass. Sounds like he hit her in the arm and did the coup de gras with a head shot.

She's caught him with some incriminating Valentine's Day boinking intelligence. Eg an SMS.

Gone ballistic, and the argument spiralled out of control, plates being chucked, carving knives, and then a gun being brandished.

Surely Oscar Pretorius isn't the first bloke to wake up legless on Valentines day and shoot up his girlfriend while imagining she's someone else?

Your assumption may be mistaken. It isn't uncommon to have a bullet enter arms held up defensively and then pass through to re enter at another location.

Very true - it does seem though that he shot her and killed her.

Why is it that people who do extraordinary things, seem to through it all away in a script that Hollywood would fail to write?

"I am the bullet in the chamber"

Pistorius fall-out: Nike moves to limit brand damage
    15 February 2013

"I am the bullet in the chamber" ran the strapline for the Nike advert featuring Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius.

As the South African athlete faced charges of "premeditated murder" in a Pretoria courtroom following the shooting dead of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, his sponsors went into crisis-management mode.

Nike swiftly pulled the unfortunately-worded ads, as the perils of celebrity brand endorsement were brought sharply into focus once again.

Mr Pistorius, who has strongly rejected the murder charge, is thought to have earned several million pounds from sponsorships with Nike, BT, Thierry Mugler, Oakley, and Ossur, the Icelandic firm that makes the prosthetic carbon fibre blades he wears for races.

But in the brutal world of sports sponsorship, the "Blade Runner" stands to lose everything, even presuming his innocence.

When asked whether Nike was considering terminating Mr Pistorius' sponsorship deal, thought to be worth about $2m, a spokesman told the BBC: "We are continuing to monitor the situation closely. It is a police matter."

Nike chooses sports stars that seem to embody and reinforce its high-energy brand. "My body is my weapon. This is how I fight," says one video featuring Mr Pistorius and other South African athletes. Its 2012 annual report contained a headline: "We are on the offense. Always."

Another example of a fame-addicted athlete who thinks the rules are not for him. In the 'me centered' world of sport it's surprising there isn't more of this stuff happening.

I didn't know he played cricket too

Bloodied cricket bat found at Pistorius home: report
    Published: 17 Feb 2013 at 14.44

South African police have found a bloodied cricket bat at the home of Oscar Pistorius, a local newspaper reported Sunday, following the Valentine's Day killing of his model girlfriend.

Police sources close to the investigation told the independent City Press newspaper that Steenkamp's skull had been "crushed".

"There was lots of blood on the bat," one source told the paper.

Police are investigating whether the bat was used to assault Steenkamp, who was shot four times in the early hours of Thursday, or if she used it to defend herself.

Police have dismissed initial suggestions that Pistorius, 26, could have mistaken Steenkamp for an intruder, and City Press said she was wearing a nightie at the time of the killing.

"The suspicion is that the first shot, in the bedroom, hit her in the hip. She then ran and hid herself in the toilet... He fire three more shots," a police source told City Press.

Oscar Pistorius case: Hilton Botha, ex-lead detective, quits

Det Botha was allegedly involved in a shooting of a minibus taxi loaded with passengers two years ago

Hilton Botha, the former lead detective in the Oscar Pistorius inquiry, has resigned, South African police confirm.

Det Botha was dropped from the investigation in February after it emerged that he was facing attempted murder charges in another case.

He has also been heavily criticised for giving contradictory evidence at the bail hearing of Mr Pistorius.

The Paralympic champion is accused of killing his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp - a charge he denies.

Mr Pistorius says he mistook her for a burglar when he shot her dead on 14 February.

Ms Steenkamp, 29, died after the athlete fired multiple shots into the toilet of his apartment in a gated housing complex in Pretoria.

Det Botha, the first officer to arrive at the scene of the shooting, was accused of mishandling the investigation after he amended his testimony during fierce questioning by Mr Pistorius's defence lawyers in last month's bail hearing.

It also emerged that the detective was allegedly involved in the shooting of a minibus taxi loaded with passengers two years ago.

The charges against him had originally been dropped but were later reinstated.

Det Botha is set to appear in court in May, along with two other officers also accused of opening fire on the taxi.

Police have not commented on the reasons behind Det Bopha's resignation.

Mr Pistorius, who is charged with premeditated murder, was released on bail on 22 February and is due to appear in court again in June.
