That's the sweeping up thing isn't it?
Played by more people than any other Winter sport, it's actually bloody good fun if you've never tried it.

Anyway back on topic, due to Scotland being totally shit i won't be going on my yearly trip to Murrayfield much to the delight of the rest of my family who think i'm a jynx as Scotland have gone rapidly down hill since i've been back in the UK, but seeing as even the majority of Scots now think Scotland are shit and will be battling Italy for the wodden spoon there is 0 expectation and pressure on them (bar the Italy game) so maybe a surprise or 2 this year but i fokin doubt it.

A curling thread. Our cable tv channels include one of the many EuroSport variations, f knows why, it has a focus on winter sports and sometimes shows French Top 14 and Heineken Cup; last week i hoped to see Toulouse v Leicester match and they had ski jumping instead. In the past we've had the option of watching curling championships. Sure a lot of Thais tune in for that. Or wait till the cross-country ski biathlon comes on, women with rifles, on skis. Does it get any better? (well, maybe if they were naked too)

Rugby - the endless, bottomless it seems, funding of French clubs

    Sexton to leave Leinster
Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton will leave Leinster at the end of the season, with Racing Métro his reported destination. The in-form playmaker's future was confirmed on Friday in what is a shock move from the Irish international and probable B&I Lions starter.

don't watch enough UK rugby to have heard of this chap
    Kohn answers Wales call

late starter, maybe getting first cap at 31.

Marmite, given that London& greater london have a population in excess of the whole of Scotland put together,it is no surprise to me that engerland have more pro players than any other home nation ,but what surprises me is the fact that the lesser home-nation teams are capable of beating you time and time again.Wales have won more grand-slams since the millenium than engerland . fact. let me give you an example of total english arrogance. Murrayfield 1990, Scotland v engerland , calcutta cup, triple crown and grand-slam. Scotland destroyed you, but what gave me the greatest joy was reading in the tabloids the very next day about the english business -man who had lost a fortune when he had manufactured tens of thousands of rugby - shirts with the slogan "ENGLAND GRAND-SLAM CHAMPIONS 1990" BEFORE THE GAME HAD STARTED. That to me is TOTAL ARROGANCE.

More than that, they've got more registered players than anyone:

Little surprised at those numbers actually. Not just the extent of England's numerical superiority but also how Australia seems to be falling. Pretty sure that up until that point they actually had more registered players than NZ.

Yes. That's what we've been saying.

The whole of England apologises for our combined arrogance which forced this guy to make some T-shirts.

It demonstrates a complete failing of the RFU to identify talent as it emerges and effectively run elite Rugby. Every town in England has a Rugby team (a lot of villages as well) but it doesn't mean that these players, all 2m of them, will ever add anything to the international scene. I would imaging there are more people in the UK who are Skiers than in Norway, yet no one in their right minds believe that therefore England should outshine Norway on the slopes.

NZ and Australia are better at identifying players, younger, and getting them into a great system. South Africa use the Varsity route, and also have very strong competitions outside of the the Super Duper 15s as does NZ. England has the Prem and the Championship that are professional, and everything under that which is the lions share of the 166k senior males are amateur weekend players who don't get paid or if they do its a score in the hand at the end of the day. Its perhaps a case of too many players which detract from the potential stars in the making. Even then, the system they move into is still lacking in comparison to the SH countries.

Wales and Australia are the teams that really show what can be done with limited resources and player pools, and should be applauded.

Anyway Tavish - it's an English game - why they hell does a chippy jock give a toss about what happen in Rugby?

I don't think there is anything unfounded about predicting that Scotland will be either clutching the wooden spoon again. Most people have said Scotland will be a place higher; maybe the is the unfounded part that you are upset about?

I believe that English confidence is founded by finishing on a high last year after developing a very inexperienced squad with a new coach.
Added to which they beat everyone except Wales in the last six nations and Scotland had a such a bad season, they sacked their coach.
Scotland have only a handful of decent internationals and England have at least two quality internationals vying for every position.
To call that unfounded or arrogant is mistaken.

I think all of you have missed the point, please re-read my first post and all the replies to it.Furthermore,it was a light-hearted remark to marmites predictions about the forth-coming six-nations games.

Ah, english arrogance at its best,Dream on big-boy....
Marmite is bang on the money and you come across like a sour scotsman. It's hardly light hearted when 99% of jocks would utter that kind of rubbish with considerable malice attached to it.

Indeed. Not enough arrogance in Scotland, hence them being shit at everything.

The only offence is a national sports team lacking passion. That's very offensive lol

A resignation is as good as saying "sacking". It's just a polite way of letting someone go without the hassle of being sued for wrongful dismissal. The wanker gets paid a sum and the company save on lawyers fees and compo.

Right enough Jock bashing. The 6N is closing in quicker than a bar girl to the airport when her farang BF is hitting town.

Corby trouser press is injured, and if England put shit hair Mahler in there, we will have a huge problem in the scrum. SCotland have their new flier Kiwi, as well as the very talented Cloggy Visser as well, and they are always up for a scuffle with the English.

    Wales? Oh Wales, the pressure!

Forza Italia as well - let's hope they can beat the French again.

    Read a lot about him, but can't quite get over this comment from him;

""I had one year on my contract and I was surprised that [Crusaders coach] Todd [Blackadder] delisted me,"

So, not good enough to even be in the Crusaders squad let alone team,.... and he's the answer to Scotland's problems in attack. It will be a shit game though; dragging on like a dirge.
