![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Floyd Mayweather sentenced to three months in jail Unbeaten American boxing champion Floyd Mayweather was sentenced to three months in jail Wednesday after pleading guilty to domestic violence charges. The guilty plea, and no contest plea to two harassment charges, means the 34-year-old boxer will not go to trial on charges he hit his ex-girlfriend and threatened two of their children during an argument at her home 15 months ago. Prosecutor Lisa Luzaich argued the sentence was too light. Mayweather could have received a sentence of 18 months in jail. "He just continually gets himself into trouble and he is able to get himself out of it as well," she said. "Essentially it is because he is who he is and is able to get away with everything. "The only thing that's going to get this man's attention is incarceration," the prosecutor said. Mayweather, who was told to report to jail January 6, declined to comment outside the courtroom. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr gets jail term postponed Floyd Mayweather Jr had been told to report to jail on 6 January A judge has ruled US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr will be allowed to postpone his 90-day jail term for domestic abuse. Mayweather's lawyer said keeping his commitment to fight on 5 May against an as-yet unnamed opponent would provide an economic boost to Las Vegas. The 34-year-old will now report to jail on 1 June. He was sentenced after pleading guilty last month to assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, in 2010. Mayweather also must complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine. Lisa Luzaich, the prosecutor, protested on Friday that the boxer should have to serve his sentence "just like anyone else". Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa did not agree. "Mr Mayweather has an obligation to this court," she said, but added: "Given the fact that Mr Mayweather has these obligations, I am going to grant your request." |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr goes to jail ![]() US world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr has begun a three-month jail term for domestic violence. The fighter was sentenced last December after pleading guilty to attacking his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris. The judge delayed his jail time to allow him to fight Miguel Cotto on 5 May. He won the fight, for which he reportedly received $32m. Rapper 50 Cent was at the Las Vegas courtroom with Mayweather, and said the boxer would be "all right". At the time of sentencing, the judge had told the court she was particularly concerned that Mayweather had attacked and threatened Ms Harris while two of their children were present. The assault took place in 2010. Mayweather has been involved in a string of criminal cases for violence since 2002. He is widely regarded as one of the world's best boxers, and has won all 43 of his professional fights. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Daddy I wanna grow up to be just like Floyd Mayweather -In 2002, Mayweather was charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of misdemeanor battery. He received a 6 month suspended sentence, 2 days of house arrest and was ordered to perform 48 hours of community service. In 2004, he was given a one year suspended jail sentence, ordered to undergo counseling for "impulse control" and pay a $1000 fine or perform 100 hours of community service after being convicted of two counts of misdemeanor battery against two women. In 2005, Mayweather pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge after kicking a bouncer and received a 90 day suspended jail sentence. On September 9, 2010, it was reported that Mayweather was being sought by police for questioning after his former girlfriend, Josie Harris, filed a domestic battery report against him. Harris has accused Mayweather of battery in the past, but those charges were later dropped in July 2005 after Harris testified that she had lied and that Mayweather had not, in fact, battered her. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Mayweather,_Jr. The kid came from a disadvantaged background- his dad was a drug dealer, his mum an addict- so you've got to say well done for his magnificent career accomplishments. Shame he wasn't able to kick the habit of being a violent bully in the process.
