    Change Your Telephone Number

For all mobile phones in Thailand:

From 30th Nov mobile numbers will be 10 digits.
Your mobile phone will require an extra digit: an 8, that has to be placed after the first zero.

Thus new numbers will change as follows: an old number 01 2345678, will become 081 2345678, and 09 2345678 will become 089 2345678.

If you can, go to an office of the company you use and give 'em your sim card takes about two minutes and all your (Thai) phone numbers are changed.

AIS had a booth set up at some car show I give em my sim and whenthey gve it back all my numbers except the international ones were gone! by the time I got bck to the booth they magically reappeared

And for that very reason - among others - I'll do it myself.

If I call a number and it doesn't work, I'll stick an 8 in it. Easy-peasy.

I bet the amount of 'wrong number' calls in the middle of the night will increase dramatically for a while, Thais seem to find it difficult to punch in the right sequence of numbers with 9 digits already...

Uh huh, but if you dont dont add the 8's to the phone memory when somebody calls you thier name will not show up on the phone, just the number with the 8 in it.

You might find yourself like me yesterday.....answering calls from people you really cannot be arsed to speak to.

Now THAT is a very good point! I'd better edit all (OK, not that many actually) ex-g/f's numbers so I don't answer when the g/f's around.
