If you know anything of what happened, it really is well dramatised imo.

I was living in Switzerland at the time.

Prior to Chernobyl they thought they had it sussed with nuclear shelters for millions.

When they found out their cows could be producing tainted milk they were jolted into reality.

The Swiss value their cows rather highly.

Like Krakatoa a century before, it was a wake up call that we only have one planet.

But we fall back into a stupor about that again and again.

The scientists use of cards and the stand was excellent, as was the model utilised by the political leader. They both had nothing to lose.

But as the KGB boss suggested, history will be written differently. Not an unusual occurrence even today, or tomorrow, if wiki is your source..

Remy: An Egyptian-American lad exploring his religion and culture in a quirky manner. Pretty good show.

Vida: 2 very hot Latino ladies (one straight and the other lesbo) struggling to adjust to life back in the neighbourhood. Again, very watchable...

The Ken Burns one is excellent imo.

    Covered on the docu thread.

He did that Vietnam one that was a bit too detailed for you, though.

And of equal importance, how a government makes lying an instrument of state policy to solidify it's hold on power.

For Chernobyl fans, note that there is an accompanying 5-episode podcast featuring the writer that covers his research and stuff.

    It is a great listen.

Just search your Podcast player of choice for "The Chernobyl Podcast" from HBO.

There is a scene they cut featuring the animal exterminators that is quite harrowing, and some other stuff too.

One hopes they do a director's cut.

Oh yup, my post is slightly misleading, they will actually show the Season 1 in its entirety it's just that it's a dead-show walking.

Just seems strange to cancel a show like that after only one episode. Something to do with the whole Disney / Fox / MCU thing I imagine.

I hope so because the whole sequence was irrelevant and added nothing to the narrative.

^ Will give that a go today, cheers.

Though may be better to watch the TV series first. 3 seasons, got s01 d/ling now.

Hatton Garden, mentioned a few pages back, 4 part mini-series on the infamous safety deposit box robbery was very good.

yes it was pretty good (Hatton Garden) - is timothy spall actually sick? He is in Summer of Rockets and he's looking pretty old and gaunt.
    Still a superb actor though.

I agree it was pretty good.

I think Timothy Spall just looks like a fat bloke who's got old without dying. Why the fuss?

In my opinion Hatton Garden kind of 'suffers' from being too accurate.

This is pretty much how this shit goes off.

They were caught by security cameras they were unaware of.

    I liked it.

Chuck in Michael Cane hamming it up and a few more liberties with the truth and you'll have download in-flight heaven.

"Oh so you're telling me you didn't see the fackin' security cameras?" etc etc..

Who'd do the Helen Mirren role though?

One Eyed Jacks (1961) starring Marlon Brando and Karl Malden. Great western.
Need to go back to find quality movies to watch. The shit being churned out for streaming is mind numbing garbage.

That's a great flick- I always loved this exchange (better in context, but still...)

Bob: [referring to Rio's busted gun hand] It's been six weeks. That hand ain't gettin' no better. I say we lay for Longworth with shotguns and then go rob that bank.

Rio: Ambushin' folks ain't exactly my style, Bob.

Bob: I'd say your style's gettin' a bit slow. We brought you along because you're supposed to be the big man with the iron; but now, I think I could even out pull you.

Rio: [Putting his hand on his gun butt] You're probably right, Bob. You probably could get six into me by the time I get that one into you.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
