At times, “London Kills” veers from a “Closer U.K.” to a “Law & Order: SVU” spinoff that learned all the wrong lessons. The second episode is so overstuffed with twists, it practically caves in on itself. The few action sequences are poorly staged.
Speer displays the variety of emotion that suggests he’s been studying the work of “CSI: Miami’s” David Caruso. Small gives her investigator the backbone to shrug off what seems like sexist nonsense from her colleagues.
The finale returns to the central mystery and tries to depict how a psycho serial killer is created. It’s not convincing, and the acting is not up to the challenge.
Spoiler: The finale leaves enough questions dangling for a second season, which has already been ordered. There must be time to call that off. Some mysteries are better left unsolved.
