DVD screeners are the copies sent out for previews. They arent cams, DVD quality sometimes with timestamps or a watermark blur, Gran Torino's great my copy was perfect from IP Torrents.

Cheers. I'm gonna try ip now. Demoniod only had screeners and the best one on pirate bay was going to download in 14mb sections. I've not tried putting one together yet.

^^Used to love drop the dead donkey. What was that other bloody funny show that was out at around the same time with Dom Jolly? That needs downloading!

Hes the guy who does all the re-encoding, and tidies up any issues such as brightness, sound, language files etc. He usually puts out fairly decent torrents.

Possibly on here somewhere, but this site is good for TV shows

    http://tvfreeload.com/

Free to join and full listing of shows is on their forum with plenty of classic stuff.

    I've been getting

Jonny Quest - The Complete First Season (1964)
    Hogan's Heroes (1965)
    Hawaii Five-0 (1968)
    The Time Tunnel (1966)
    The Phantom (1943 movie serial)
    Space 1999 (1975)
    UFO (1970)
    Mission Impossible (1960)
    McHale's Navy (1962)
    Combat (1962)

    Just for starters.

No torrents, direct download of files from rapidshare or megaupload

Had similar thing with GT, when played on the computer it was OK but when burned to disc or memory stick, all it did was play the warnings as above.

Stick to scene releases if you want to avoid unpleasant surprises. 1 GB is a non-standard size - at best you'll get a half-decent encoding by an amateur, at worst you get a fake file.

Scene releases are size adopted to fit on writable media. Hence, look for:

    1. 700MB (ish) files if you want a quick download and you don't have a large TV (these scene releases look decent on up to 40" screens).

    2. For better quality DVD rips with AC3 (i.e. Dolby Digital sound) the scene provides releases that fit on two writable CDs - 1.36 GB is the size to look out for.

If the release is still in .RAR archives (this is how scene releases are distributed initially before they reach p2p), it will typically also have a sample file attached which increases the size somewhat, hence the torrent will be some 10-20 MB larger than 700 or 1.36 MB.

To avoid getting crap, download and play the sample first to check the quality.

    3. Complete DVD5 and DVD9 releases that fit on a single layer or dual layer DVD respectively. 4.36 GB and just over 7 GBs.

720p high definition files will typically also be released as 4.36GB files, for the same reason (to fit on a writable DVD5).

Cheers Franken, If its in .RAR format, which I"ve seen quite a bit of, will it still download and play just the same? I ask because I've downloaded some porn stuff in the past in RAR which I couldn't play.

Yes - provided it's not a fake torrent, and provided that you did not miss the right codec to play the content. (To avoid codec problems, stop using Windows Media Player and Power DVD, and don't use separate codec packs. To make it easy for yourself, download VLC player - it is a free, open source player that has its own codecs and plays virtually every media file).

All you need to do to use RAR files is to download the program WinRAR, and use it to unpack the contents from the archives.

When you have downloaded and installed WinRAR, all you need to do is to browse to any downloaded torrent containing rar files, then click on one of the rar files in the folder (any file will do).

A WinRAR window showing the content in the archives then opens automatically. Just select all files in the archives and then click on the option or button 'Extract' among the buttons at the top of the window.

Files with the extension .rar, like files with the extension .zip, are used to compress content, and also to distribute large files divided up into smaller chunks. There is no benefit to using RAR when it comes to Bit Torrent, but the releases are distributed using other methods of file sharing, for example FTP or IRC, before they end up available as Bit Torrent downloads.

Probably will otherwise the rar format wouldn't be accepted by torrent sites, but I only go for avi because my DVD plays them with no bickering and can get 5 or sometimes 6 movies on a single disk.

U-Turn recommended again for anyone having a bad day, and esp after a good toke.

It hasn't been released in theaters yet. Comes out on Christmas Day. Downloaded it about a week ago and about to watch it now.

What is the mac equivilent program? I have vlc, dvix, quicktime, u-turn maybe more. I'm intrested in converting them so that they work on my home theatre, which I use by just pluging in my usb drive which has the movie or tv show on it.
