Anybody up on using a Slingbox and watching HD channels through your computer?

This is what I want to do:

I'm getting a Slingbox set up in New York to have the satellite signal sent back to Thailand so I can access it through my computer and have 'real' television channels to watch- there is an HD Slingbox version available so I'll finally be able to use my 1080p HDTV for something other than watching a crappy compressed signal through Truevisions (I already have access to a Slingbox signal for testing, and it works fine, so no ISP issues).

Slingbox.com - Watch Your TV Anywhere with a Slingbox

My question is this- what do I need to put between my computer and my TV to convert the signal to something that will play in HD? Do I need an HD player of some sort? Can I get an upgraded video card and just go that route?

It's probably pretty simple... or maybe it's not- I don't have a clue.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I found something better than the Slingbox- I just ordered a Vulkano Deluxe Pro:

Don't all these new fangled tv's connect up to your pc these days? I know last time I mentioned sticking a tv card in my pc they all laughed at me.

I can hook up my PC direct to my TV (the same way I hook up my monitor), but it's not an HD signal.

Perhaps there's an upgraded video card- I've been seeing several HD players in the shops recently, so maybe that's what I need.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to computers.

If you want HD you need an HDMI out on your PC. There are plenty of video cards with HDMI, but buy a decent brand like nVidia.

But be warned: Slingbox increases its compression if throughput is poor, so don't expect fluid 1080p all the time. In fact with my experience of Thailand internet, I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. It will also be delayed a fair bit, so don't do any in-game betting.

I found a site where I tune into American TV from Philly. I get ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, Fox, and and one more for free. You need an American social security card of all things. But that can be bypassed. You get what they are showing live as broadcast. If your pc and monitor support it you have great high def. If you are fast enough on your internet connection. I am looking forward to the NFL season. The kids like all the old shows on CW. But the time difference is a killer.

I've got all my stuff ordered and ready to set up for when I'm in the States next week.

The nice thing about the built-in Tivo is that the 12-hour time difference between here and the East Coast (yes, it changes and hour during DST) won't be an issue as I'll pre-record pretty much everything I'm actually interested in watching (I'll channel-surf live at times, of course, but at night in Thailand I'll be getting a lot of game shows and soap operas...)
