    Blade Runner: which version ?

I have the special DVD set of Blade Runner, and I think I have watched every version, that is Original US and International, Director Cut and the Final Cut released in 2007

I was watching the Theatrical International version, and I think at the end it's the best version. The other two are a bit "cold", without personality, too aesthetic, almost Kubrik like. The voice over is actually sparse and not that present, even though originally I thought it was, and it actually brings a focus that is not there in the other 2 versions.

The ending is actually quite appropriate. In the other versions, that is Director Cut and Final Cut, the ending was actually lame, giving no direction or a clean end, almost feel like they didn't know what to do, so they let it there unfinished, almost amateur like.

Soundtrack didn't age a bit, quite amazing.

I really dislike the directors cut. I like Harrison Fords commentary. I have never seen the international version but the original is my fav so far. Top ten movies of all time for sure.

you will hate the Final Cut even more, it's basically the same thing. I might watch it again just to remind myself how the first version is better.

agree about the original version, the difference between the US and International is the few extra seconds of violence and beatings you don't see in the US version

I always prefered the voice over version myself. Gave it much more of a film-noir atmosphere.

In the book Decker is a replicant. And it comes out at the end. In all the versions I've seen I can't recall if that fact is anything more than left to the imagination. Although Sean does ask him if he's ever tested himself with the Iris machine.

Yes that's what I am saying, it gives more depth to the story. I used to think it was annoying but I actually like it better now.

Is he really a replicant in the book ? I thought that was rebutted for the movie version and by the director himself ? would make sense if he was, as he seems to have a special talent to detect them

they all have the red eye thing in the movie, he doesn't

there was a hint in the Director Cut or Final Cut that he had also the red eyes thing

Thanks for this thread, reminded me and now I've ordered the 5-disc set for $27 (!), including the original and final cuts, to top up my bluray collection.

and the Close Encounters 30th anniv. special.

    and Contact.

Amazon is so cheap compared to here <sigh>

There's a bloke on Amazon who claims he's seen Blade Runner once a week for the last ten years.

Christ, I'd like him on my team for the "Blade Runner" pub quiz round.

    From imdb:-

At some point of the movie, each replicant has a red brightness in their eyes (Rachael in Deckard's home, Pris in Sebastian's). Deckard also has the shining in his eyes while talking to Rachael in his house. In July 2000, director Ridley Scott said that Deckard is, in fact, a replicant. Harrison Ford takes issue with this, however. "We had agreed that he definitely was not a replicant," Ford said. Rutger Hauer's autobiography expressed some disappointment with the same, because it reduced the final clash between Deckard and Batty from a symbolic "man vs. machine" battle to two replicants fighting.

Classic... Blade Runner was way, way ahead of it's time when it was released in 1982... It's always been on my top 10 SciFi film list...

I like the directors cut.. well it's as it should be, not as the censors think it should be.
The voice over is ok, but only if you've seen the film several times before.
