South African Supersport gone by end of May

Haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but DSTV, the provider of Supersport, are pulling off C-Band by May 31st, so you'll lose all your SS channels.

And they are moving to IS7 and W7 in Southern Africa, so I don't think you'll get them anywhere else.

Yeah heard about this. It sucks great big, hairy, donkey-balls.

Just as well I didn't go and set-up a new dish on my roof specifically for the SS channels despite it looking butt ugly because the other one was blocked by my neighbours trees, so that now I have 2 DSTV systems and neither of which will function soon.

    Oh wait, no I did...

    Great.

Lived on it up in Isaan.

Then moved to BKK and shitty UBC shite.

Now my friends in Isaan will have nothing but UBC shite too.

    This makes me happy.

    But I'm a total cock.

    Sorry for your loss y'all.

Thai soccer fans will be able to watch all 64 matches from 11 June to 11 July 2010 through Channel 3, Channel 7, Modern Nine TV and Thai Radio and Television Station. The 2010 FIFA World Cup [at] Central World and FIFA World Cup [at] Siam Paragon will be held to attract more fans to enjoy the extensive activities.

Mr Sompong Archanukrow, Manager for Office of the Chairman of Bangkok Broadcasting and Television Co. (BBTV), believed that the FIFA World Cup was the best soccer competition with the largest number of viewers in the world. The 4 channels will take turns broadcasting every match of the competition to ensure Thai fans can watch all matches.

Talking about the world cup football which is only a few months a away.

I just called True and they are not going to be showing it on their english language sports channels. Only on channel 3 & 7 of Thai TV.

I can't find any info on the Malaysian feed. Lets hope they are going to show it.

I can only find info about ESPN/Star getting the rights to show the World Cup football in India. Football | ESS to show 2010 FIFA World Cup | ESPNSTAR.com

I've just found their facebook page so have sent them a message to find out. Hopefully they will reply with good news for my customers sake.

Nooooooooooo!!! This is a huge blow! I have signed up with rugbyzone.com, but it is not always reliable. Also will miss the nights in Bkk watching rugby in the pubs.

Oh well, the way the Sharks are playing this year, maybe it isn't such a bad thing!

4 years ago i travelled to the UK to watch the WC live on tv as UBC were only showing the recorded highlights of matches.

Seems that FIFA will not permit TV companies who charge subscriptions to their customers to have rights to live televised matches of the WC. It is the world football showcase and should be avalable to all.

I am again returning to the UK in early June (to visit my father) and to watch the WC live on tv.

Having recently watched the Carling Cup Final live on Thai tv i must add that it was truly a painful experience with advertising taking precedence during the match. Money well spent to travel elsewhere if you happen to be an ardent football fan IMHO.

Whilst watching the first England match 4 years ago a friend residing here phoned me to ask if the game was on as all the Thai channels were showing a Royal parade. He was a wee bit gutted when i informed him that England had already scored. He's probably not looking forward to more of the same this year.

That's what they said in 2006 then they missed two (or more) games due to screening of the Royal Barge procession on all terrestrial channels.

They probably will not have English Commentary as the extra track either. Last time they tried to charge something like 200,000thb to any venue that wanted it.

Not to mention they have the most irritating habit of showing adverts every 5 mins and shrinking the picture into the corner of the screen.

Having a holiday to watch the WC overseas sounds like a good idea, as a lot of the games will be on after 2am and thus venues won't be allowed to stay open to screen them.

Yeah I get that it will be on in Thai.

The majority of the guys that come to our place to watch the footy are Thai but even a lot of them prefer the English commentary because the Thai commentary is so shit.

DSTV ceasing transmissions from 1st June.

Just catching up with this news, though it may be available elsewhere. DSTV (Multichoice) are ceasing transmitting on their C Band from 1st June, and will only broadcast on KU Band.

Maybe, like me, there are those of us whom receive DSTV via a Dreambox, and hence have access to the full range of DSTV programming (all the sports channels, BBC, movies etc etc). Well, that's going, and of course prior to the commencement of the World Cup.

Anyone else know about this, anyone else done research on alternatives etc?

Fook I almost greened you for this post Mao!

What the fvck I will be losing my cricket, Rugby and almost everything that matters to me.

In turn this will cause huge loses for the pub operators in Bangkok and Pattaya but I bet you Bob at the Office Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 33 will find a way around this stupid decision by DSTV.
