    UMTS

Hope this is the right spot to ask,

I'm looking at a new phone and they have two models, both the same but one quite a bit more expensive has UMTS. Sony k790i / k800i

I am wondering if it would be worthwhile having for the future in Thailand? I would expect to have it for a number of years, I've had the one I have now for three years. I also use it in a number of other countries but really just need a phone but am interested in using it to connect to the internet through my pc. I use GPRS in Thailand at the moment.

Okay.....Have I confused you? A UMTS phone is a 3G phone, just found this out with research.

I just wanted to know if people think it is worth having a #G phone in Thailand? Will it come soon or in 10 years? How long is a piece of string?

I will probably get the more expensive one and never use half the features, just like this pc I am tapping away on....

not 100% sure on this but i think the 790i is not UMTS, is has edge instead.

The K800i is UMTS for sure as you can clearly see the small camera on the front of the phone used for video calling.

Thailand plan to roll out CDMA here, CAT have started already. googling will tell you if CDMA handsets are compatable with UMTS and vice versa.

Both camera have the xenon flash, which is what make this phone the best available at the moment....i want one (k800i) but am reluctant to buy overseas cheaply and then send here. the customs boys would want paying. I will wait until the prices drop here.
