Loving this new XP app - not sure whether it's Mac robbed

I downloaded this today and gave it a whirl. Once you've got it configured how you like it it's fricking awesome!

Here's some screenies of it it in action.

You can set it up to run in the background or if you roll over the top over the screen and select your new app or proggy.

Gets rid of all your desktop clutter, unless you like being a messy fvker. And you can switch between apps on the fly - better than ALT-TAB.

It also looks pretty cool, isn't processor intensive, well not on my machine.

Just a couple of screenies to show how it looks.

    Do shiz on the fly:

download it here if you wanna give it a crack:

Incidently I didn't download it from here, I downloaded it on my work laptop. But I have the file if anyone wants me to sent it to them. It's 26.6MB.

Download Rocket Dock for free, and you don't have to sign up to some adware crap like Pack_Vista_Inspirat_1.1.exe

Yeah but we don't all want MAC's...I am happy with my PC and it's unbounded acceptance for nearly all apps etc... but I do enjoy a few of the Mac's bits and bobs.

I'll happily take the best bit of all tech devices, apps, OS's etc...

I bastardized my tech usage thank you very much.

Docks aren't all that much use to me. I prefer Quicksilver which is an app launcher/file finding bohemoth, might be something similar for Windows knocking about

Never really tied QuickSilver, I respect your usual contributions to tech related bobins Melv. I'll take a peek.

Quicksilver for Mac is invaluable to me, might have to try a few of the Windows ones to get the right one, could be a few RAM hungry ones just trying to mimic QS. Launchy might be a good place to start, its free

what's wrong with putting icons on your desktop ? isn't that the same as that stupid dock ?

the appdock concept didn't catch on MacOS9, so Apple in typical fashion forced it down to everyone with MacOSX thinking it was revolutionary, but it wasn't, it just looked pretty and "cool"

The Docks of little or no use to me, as for putting icons on the desktop I'd find it far easier to have a search box pop up for finding any file I wanted rather than having loads of icons scattered around.

I like the Start -> Programs approach. It doesn't get in the bloody way like that awful dock thing does.

that's a nice and clean desktop Melv, exactly how I like them, and your dock is trim

putting a few icons properly arranged is not really that messy if done right,

hate it when I see people putting all their documents all over the place on the desktop, quite messy

probably the best approach, copied by most Linux desktop distro now and everyone else for that matter except Apple which likes to be consistent in their clumsy OSX interface

The docks usually hidden, it just popped up when I took the screenshot and couldn't be bothered to redo it. I only use the dock for the 2 folders which handle downloads

I might be wrong but I've got it in my head that anything on the desktop on a Mac gets treated as a window or something and uses a bit of power

I have to admit that the popup download folder on the dock is quite awesome and very convenient, probably the best feature of the all OSX platform. Will need to find something similar under Windows.

would not surprise me a bit, you can tell that the whole desktop design has been developed by Indian monkeys

Nice try -- honestly, why should I bother?

The desktop uses the same amount of overhead, no matter how much is in your dock, or your desktop (with the exception if you deliberately create overhead, by turning 'calculate folder size' on for every window, and keep them all open). As long as stuff is closed, there's no additional overhead than just running the Finder.

Placing folders into your dock, configured for 'Folder' view and 'List' view gives you the best quick access alternative -- keep the folders you place in the dock in your documents folder, not on the desktop, obviously.

Lean desktop management is just a matter of actually understanding the tools you use - only fools declare a system as 'unusable' without trying to understand it (particularly when their knowledgebase is stuck back in the late 90s)
