| Public Enemies started quite well- first 30 minutes or so- and then fizzled. Damned shame. Still worth a watch on DVD. Of the films mentioned above, oddly enough I wouldn't consider Godfather I-II (none dare call it a trilogy) a gangster movie, although a good argument can certainly be made . "Goodfellas" and "Long Good Friday" are both movies I could watch just about anytime.

Great flick. Funny how the poster makes it look like a Monroe vehicle, she is barely in it. Sam Jaffe is very memorable in that. Also, in a similar vein with Hayden, Kubrick's "The Killing".

Stirling Hayden had that wonderfully dramatic voice didn't he ? How about we start a thread about wonderful voices and your reasons if possible about why they either make you weak at the knees, or stand your hair on end. Think Esther Rantzen & Dean Martin, Cilla Black & Elvis Presley. Ant, I think if you red me to fukk after hating Public Enemies you should green me to fukk for this brilliant thread idea, which you will obviously take up immediately.

OK, how about Miller's Crossing. One or two uneven patches but 90% genius. Finney is amazing, and it is possibly Gabriel Byrne's best performance. Speaking of Byrne, how about "Usual Suspects"? Gangster movie, or just a crime drama?

I watched Public Enemies last night but I was so tired that I kept drifting off to sleep. I think if it was of any worth it would have kept me awake. Should I give it another shot and watch it again?
