I disagree, it wasn't bad per se, it's a cult classic. Very original at the time, and still today. I recently watched the original version on DVD not remastered and it looked like crap. I have recently got from a friend the new HD re-mastered version and I have been told it was night and day and will just add a new dimension to the movie. Lynch himself hated that movie, but I think it was probably his best !!!

Being a HUGE David Lynch fan and obviously Dune, I was sorely disappointed in this first attempt to adapt Frank Herbert's classic novel to celluloid... No way you can compress the original Dune novel to 2 - 3 hours of film... The SciFi Channel finally did it justice in 2000 as a mini-series and is highly recommended...

David Lynch's series Twin Peaks is still relevant today... I occassionally still watch it for the weird factor...

If I recall correctly I saw that years ago, and it was the biggest load of unmitigated crap ever.

Funny think about Herbert though, he seems to be one of those authors that publish as much after they are dead as they did before...I stopped following the books a good while ago. The first one was awesome, second good, third ok and then it started descending into sludge...

Maybe we should start a second thread about best and worst sci fi/fan books.

Frank wrote several novels in the Dune series, which started as a trilogy... The story line grew to 7 novels... Unfortunately, Frank passed before complete... His son, Brian Herbert has continued the series and extended it with both prequel novels and follow ups to the series with another ghost-writer...

The entire series and background OP can be found at:

The Official Dune Website

the son should be ashamed - the sequels and prequels are nothing better than average.

^ didn't read the novel, and not surprised it was impossible to fit it in such a movie. That said, I still think it was original work, great costume, great dialogues and a lot of interesting dark scenes

Best - Star Wars.

Worst - that Scientology movie, Battlefield Earth, or something like that.

I've never seen Blade Runner. After seeing the votes on here, I might give it a go today.

Just returned from watching 'District 9' and unless it's a build up to a 2nd film, then it's total bobbins, and for me one of the worst films so far. Wank, no other word for it.
