    Noel Gallagher 'quitting Oasis'

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Noel Gallagher 'quitting Oasis'

    Oasis News

Noel Gallagher has announced he is quitting rock band Oasis because he can no longer work with his brother Liam.

Noel, the group's lead guitarist, made the statement on the band's website. He said a series of rows with his brother led to the decision.

The guitarist said: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.

"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

    'Gutted'
"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan," he added.

Earlier it was announced the band had cancelled their second gig in the space of a week because of "an altercation within the band".
They had been expected to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, but fans at the concert were told by the support band that Oasis would not be performing.

It does feel like it has a degree of finality to it
    Hamish McBain, NME

Many of the crowd thought it was a joke - until screens at either side of the stage showed the message "as a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled".

Hamish McBain, from music magazine New Musical Express, said despite a long history of falling out between the two brothers, this split has an air of finality.
He told the BBC: "The relationship between Noel and Liam has been frosty over the last tour, to say the least, but it's been frosty before.

"Noel has left tours before, Liam's not showed up for gigs before, and they've carried on. But this, certainly the way Noel's presented it on the Oasis website, it does feel like it has a degree of finality to it."

Oasis fans used Twitter to respond to the news that lead guitarist Noel had quit.
    'Worst day ever'

PsychedelicAdam posted: "Noel Gallagher leaves Oasis? Gutted, no more Oasis then I guess, they were one of my favourite bands."

Wolvolass said: "I feel sick, sooo many good memories and gigs seeing Oasis over the years."

MattGriffin added: "This is the worst day ever."

On Sunday the band had also cancelled their headline slot at the V Festival in Essex after Liam was diagnosed with viral laryngitis.

They performed in Stafford on Saturday but the singer was advised by doctors not to perform again.

Oasis formed in Manchester in 1991, but were originally known as The Rain.

    Wild lifestyles
The group was formed by Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums, percussion), but were soon joined by Liam's older brother Noel Gallagher (lead guitar and vocals).
According to the Belfast Telegraph, by June 2009 Oasis had sold more than 50 million records worldwide.

They have had eight UK number-one singles and have amassed 15 NME Awards, five BRIT Awards, nine Q Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards.
In February 2007, Oasis received the BRIT Award for outstanding contribution to music.

The Gallagher brothers have featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their sibling disputes, wild lifestyles and highly-public feud with rival Britpop band Blur.
The final line-up consisted of guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell, as well as unofficial drummer Chris Sharrock.

About time and I hope its true. Theyve plodded along for 10 years on the back of 2 half decent albums, in true Manc blagger style. Noels not a bad songwriter (not a great one) and hopefully this will stick, he'll take a break and come back with something halfway decent on the solo side of things.

    Spot on comments Melv.

Their last album that was worth mentioning was "What's the story ..." and have been living of that fame ever since.
As for Noel Gallagher releasing some decent solo work? I very much doubt that he ever will.
After all, does the world really need more 2nd rate Beatles ripoffs?

Oasis - populist fodder for the masses, don't know why they were compared to the Beatles, actually I think only Blur had the versitality that the Beatles did, how ironic.

Anyway, I don't mind Oasis but I ain't gonna shed no tears over this.

    Oasis split

Noel and Liam battling again, Liam breaks Noel's guitar and twats him in the eye before Paris gig, gig cancelled, Noel resigns. Good timing as there was only one decent tune on the last album

    Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

    August 28, 2009
NOEL Gallagher has sensationally quit Manchester supergroup Oasis, blaming his brother for the walk-out.

IN a statement on the band’s website, the Burnage Britpop star said: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.

“People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.
Oasis split 'a sad day' for music
    Oasis at war

“Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”

Earlier it was announced they had cancelled their second gig in the space of a week because of 'an altercation within the band'.

They were expected to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris but the crowd were told by Bloc Party, who were due to perform before Oasis, the Manchester band would not be taking the stage.

Many of the crowd thought it was a joke - until the big screens at either side of the main stage showed the message 'as a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled'.

Ben Clover, 28, who travelled from south London for the festival said: “I was hoping to see the band on the top of their game - now I am not sure we will ever see them perform live again.

“There are a lot of British Oasis fans who have come over for this gig and they are very disappointed.”
    Bemusement
Two burly security men stood guard at the home of the Gallagher brothers' family home in Burnage.

One said they were posted there to ensure that their mother, Peggy, would not be bothered by fans or reporters since the split was announced.

He was unable to confirm whether or not she was at home but refused to let reporters knock on the door of the semi-detached house to find out.

One neighbour said Peggy had not been home for around two months.

Neighbours expressed bemusement at the latest Gallagher brothers rift, saying it was sad the band had split up, but not entirely unexpected.

One woman echoed the oft-repeated comment that they would patch up their differences and reform.
    Understandable
She said: "Spending that much time together would get on anyone's nerves but it's understandable. It's sad they've let the fans down."

Last weekend the band pulled out of the V Festival in Chelmsford which they were meant to headline.

The band pulled the plug on their show at the annual music event because frontman Liam Gallagher was struck down with viral laryngitis.

Their non-appearance sparked rumours they were set to split.

Oasis fans have taken to micro-blogging site Twitter to express their sadness at Noel’s departure.

Personally, I didn't care too much for them. None the less, they were able to knock out a good tune or tway. You have to feel sorry for all of their long suffering fans.

Liam Gallagher phones puppy from Los Angeles

    Today's top gossip:

Oasis' Liam Gallagher and wife Nicole Appleton phoned their pet dog Ruby from Los Angeles to wish her luck in a 'Pup Idol' best-looking-dog competition held back in London. The 18-month-old daschund had been entered into the competition - held at a Hampstead pub - by Appleton's former All Saints bandmates Mel Blatt and sister Natalie Appleton, who is babysitting the hound.
Despite the good luck phonecall from "mummy and daddy", the pooch lost out on the prettiest female category to a stray (Daily Star).
